From the Jim Nabor's Hour 1970 - I'll Be There:
Time For A Question
Have you met the love of your life? If so, how did you meet?
I devoted a post to how I met my partner Anastasia. Click If I Could Blog Back Time Thursdays - How We Met to check it out. We met online via PlantOut.com.
I just came from my daughter's psychiatrist appointment at Will County Mental Health. If you live in Illinois, you know we still don't have a budget. When we arrived for our appointment we were notified that Governor Quinn sent a letter to their offices notifying them that on July 1, 2009 state funding will be cut 50-100%. If you live in Illinois please contact your legislators. Even if you don't and are familiar with the struggles families go through when a family member suffers from mental illness, contact them and share your story and your concern.
If you could take a moment of your time to read the post that will follow this and contact our Illinois legislators I would so much appreciate it.
Thank you all!

So, does this mean that she gets the ball game and you get the bug spray?

The entire United States mental health system is under-funded and inadequate, lacking in out patient services, housing and medical care that is equal to that of private sector insurance paid care. It is a crime, and indignity, that my daughter, by age 21 in living at a state funded group home on SSI and medicaid. The services are not at all meeting my standards and if this can happen to me, it can happen to anyone.
I appeal to everyone to write to their state representatives and the President for that matter.
And, yes, I have found my soul mate. :) it really can happen, and at my age, who knew?
@ Harriet - Yup, that's what it means.
@ Stephany - I've got a newer post with the letter I received. They are talking about closing down the County Mental Health Department period. That means no therapists, no psychiatrists, no medications. I know it's a scare tactic, but our legislators need to know this is not at all acceptable and they need to get to work to pass a budget that isn't cut so drastically all to the detriment of the poor and the sick.
That post you put up with all the contacts is great. There is a vast shortage of advocates as you know, and this is the way it begins.
Many people do not know how to help, and this is one way they can and seriously, voices joined together add up.
I read your post about your daughter's dx. You know I understand what has happened, and I send you all positive thoughts, honestly, it's a world we cannot describe and these kids deserve to be treated in society as if they had cancer. I say that, because when we say schizophrenia people run for the hills. No casseroles are brought over, we reside in the dark shadows of this stuff and it is plain wrong.
My daughter's story is very extreme, and I hope the best for your daughter.

Happy VGNO!
I wish you the best with your daughter - that's awful about what's happening to the mental health services in your state. Good for you for standing up and fighting. Do you think I could participate in the fight, even though I don't live in IL?
happy vgno!!
Happy VGNO!
Damn you are persistent. Looks like you won her over {or wore her down} :) Congrats and happy VGNO!
Sweet story about you and your S.O. Thanks for sharing it.
Sorry to hear about budget issues. Here in CA, budget is a four letter word :o(
Happy VGNO!

I am so sad to hear that. There are issues in my family as well and we always seem to fall through the cracks - making too much for assistance and not making nearly enough to cover things ourselves. It's horrible that anyone should have to go without proper care.
Happy VGNO and I hope that the funding that is necessary for patients like your daughter is NOT removed.
I hope they get the funding sorted! Hope your daughter is doing well! Happy VGNO! Have a great weekend.
have a wonderful weekend and Happy VGNO!
