I have not read it yet but after seeing her on every talk show on every channel, it took away my desire to read it. I have a hard time feeling bad for people who have every privilege and opportunity in life and choose to do stupid things. I struggle for every dime we make and while yes, I squander some on stupid things, I'm a far cry from what these celebrities choose to do. I think that maybe some things do not need to be put out there for the public to know. I mean, why did anyone NEED to know about the sex with her dad? It was for sensationalism and so that she can try and get more publicity that would lead to higher sales of her book which would lead to more money for her.

This is a bizarre story to say the least. Do I doubt it? No, not really, there is some weird stuff out there. I know that in order to heal she had to deal with this, but on national TV?? I don't know, I just don't think we all need to help her deal. I might read the book, not sure. Won't buy it though.

I, too, have been somewhat skeptical (only from what little I've read on the gossip sites), but as you say, the lifestyle would seem to support something like that happening.

I just don't understand the need to publicize it. If you're using the excuse that you're helping others to deal with the same painful situation, it seems to be there must be other ways. As for catharsis, there's therapists for that.

7:05 in the morning? TWO hours on the bus?? That sucks. We have similar issues here just with the public school bus. My 9 year old goes to an elementary school that is only 10 minutes from our house. School starts at 7:45. The bus in the morning stops in front of our house at 6:25!! Are they insane?? We drive him in the morning which is kind of a hassle but we can all sleep a little later, too.

trinity has always had to ride the bus nearly 2 hours each way. she's used to it though. it's tough and your daughter does not seem to be in the position right now to handle such a drastic change in schedule. i hope they can work that out.

I think that is ridicules. But on the other side if the government tried to make every one pay for health care and some do not believe in medicine, it will cause an uproar. I know my Dad is very concerned about this bill. He really believes the government will decide who gets what kind of care. I'd be curious to find out from Rad if presently Christian Scientists typically buy (use) any type of health insurance and/or if any type of health insurance is available that they would even consider purchasing? If Christian Scientists typically do not believe in and do not purchase health insurance then the proposed bill that would mandate that all citizens have some sort of health insurance should certainly make adjustments for them and others like them who do not accept traditional health insurance.

I am a practicing Christian Scientist and my family has successfully relied on spiritual healing for five generations now. My intent in posting this comment is not to “pitch” my preferred system of healing to those who depend on other types of health care, but to explain why I feel it is important that there be a provision for spiritual healing in any forthcoming healthcare legislation.

It would seem fundamentally unfair for someone to be required to pay for insurance that does not cover the type of healthcare he or she utilizes. In a policy climate where some form of mandated universal coverage appears likely, it would only seem fair that anyone required to pay into a system would have coverage for the type of health care that they have found works best for them (without depriving anyone else of their choices). If the individual mandate to buy insurance does not provide for those who rely on qualifying spiritual care, they may receive no benefit for their premiums.

While Christian Scientists normally choose a path other than conventional medicine, this choice is not based on blind faith. It instead reflects a systematic approach to prayer that has proven to be reliable and effective in the lives of those who practice it.

Regarding the question as to why Christian Science practitioners charge for prayer, it should be pointed out that the Christian Science practice is a full time ministry for these individuals (and they have made a formal committment not to divide their attention between their healing work and other types of employment). Just as many churches have paid clergy (which the Christian Science church does not have), it seems only right that full-time practitioners be compensated for their work. On the other hand, I don't know of any CS practitioner who would turn away a patient who has no means to pay for treatment, and many practitioners devote a significant portion of their time to this "benevolence" work.

things here are crazy, as you know. i hope you guys are able to hold things together and enjoy the fall/winter holidays.

p.s. i personally DO NOT think that refusing to do chores or listening to your parents is "normal teenage stuff". it's a kid with a serious attitude problem who is too selfish to see how their contribution would promote good for the group they belong to. complaining about having to do it, etc, that's normal. but just refusing, not normal. i know you are dealing with much more than that but i just wanted to add that in there.

I'm not familiar with that concept - but I imagine other churches seek out donations for their services even if they don't "charge" - donations that are subject to different tax laws and deductions. More semantics and being up front?

Interesting question. I guess it's their right to at least ask. And I imagine the fact that it made it to the bill might have something to do with a lot of rich entertainers who are invovled in Christian Science. Or maybe freedom of religion. Probably more the former, I'm kind of cynical like that though.

It is a relief to have others witness our frustrations with our children, isn't it? I'm sorry that you had to waste a whole session like that. Teens are so unbelievably selfish. This weekend our son forgot his keys and when he came home, we were out. He called from a neighbor's house - because his phone was dead - and was annoyed that WE weren't home! We had to remind him of all of the ways he normally inconveniences us (through much yelling and screaming) before he finally caught on and apologized.
