I don't know why she needs reminding, but redheads do need more than 1 application of sunscreen. In fact, if you can get a constant spray of sunscreen, that may not even be enough. She came home fried. Did you know you can get from Harlem and I80 to the cell in 20 minutes if you drive a Corvette like a madman? (She said she didn't see a thing because her eyes were closed the whole way and she lost track of the number of Hail Mary's she said.)
Saturday we went to our local Farmer's Market, but we made no purchases. It was a quick run in and out just before closing. Sadly the produce didn't look good this week. Hopefully next week it will look better.
Sunday we went to Cedar Lake, Indiana. It was just about a knock down drag out fight to get our daughter to go. She claimed we sprung it on her. No, we told her the day we knew that Anastasia had her day off confirmed. I finally had to threaten her with 'I never get to go anywhere and do anything, if I have to stay home because you refuse to go, you're not going to like me.' That was the gist of it, give or take a few words. I closed it with the classic 'Mom is totally serious and not foolin' look'. Suddenly she got her butt off the living room floor and out the door.
It was just under an hour drive. What a beautiful scenic drive! I was so glad we opted to take back roads instead of the highway. It took less than 10 extra minutes and it was definitely worth it. Corn fields, wheat fields, beautiful trees. Nice drive.

Gorgeous lake, but it was a bit too choppy for my liking. Anastasia's brother took her and our son on a pontoon boat ride for several hours. Anastasia claimed it wasn't that choppy once you got going. If you say so hon. Anastasia went without sunscreen, so now she's double fried. Hello redhead? Get a clue! I sat in an adirondack chair drinking Snapple and enjoying the breeze. It was actually nicer outside than in the club. Oh yeah, and my daughter was like glue stuck to my side. I still enjoyed it anyway.
I got a 'delayed burn'. Around 11pm my face started to feel real hot. I thought 'oh great! more hot flashes!', but no, I went to look in the mirror and my face and neck were sunburned.

Ouch! It never pays to forget the sunscreen!
ReplyDeleteThe Corvette Stingray was my dream car growing up! LOL to all the Hail Mary's she said.
ReplyDeleteDouble ouch on Anastasia's double fry. Ugh, I'm almost done with my burn from last Wednesday and it ain't cool at all.
ReplyDeleteAnd it didn't even fade into a tan. Grr.
@ musingwoman - No it doesn't!
ReplyDelete@ blueviolet - Yes, for someone who complains about my granny driving, I thought it was pretty funny.
@ cardiogirl - Since Anastasia is a redhead, her burn never tans either.
When this post came up in my reader, I thought it was going to be about delicious fried and crispy fair food.
ReplyDeleteI sympathize with Anastasia. I am a sort-of redhead, meaning I do sometimes burn but then it tans. I was out too much this weekend, and my face really hurts. That is such a gross feeling. But damn will I look good by tomorrow.
@ JD - Sorry to disappoint. But we are trying to plan a trip to the WI State Fair in August. If we go I will definitely have tons of fried stuff on a stick to report on. I went on their website last night and they literally have a list of like 50 food items on a stick. They even have Chocolate Covered Bacon. http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/47303747.html
ReplyDeleteBurning is always bad - not just painful, though I can still remember my three torturous sunburns from early adulthood - but also quite dangerous. Even if it turns to a tan.
ReplyDeleteHope you both heal up from the sunburn soon. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteBoats are fun. We boat in the wind all the time. You get used to it. Living in California having the wind is a plus during our hot summers.
Have a terrific day. :)
omg i am the pink person of the universe! i burn and burn, last summer i had a thing scraped off of my forehead and thankfully it's not cancer!
ReplyDelete@ Stephanie B - I know burning isn't good, but tell the redhead! She is still really dark red tonight.
ReplyDelete@ Sandee - I don't mind the wind, I mind the choppy waters.
@ Stephany - I burn and it usually turns to tan, unless it's a bad burn. Anastasia always burns and it never really turns to tan. Thank goodness yours wasn't cancer.
Gees, that woman must be extra crispy from the weekend!! Yikes. Maybe you could get her one of those umbrella hats that make a person look so good. :)
ReplyDelete@ Lin - She is extra crispy. I doubt that one of those umbrella hats would fit. She's got an awfully big head. Lol!
