If I Could Blog Back Time Thursdays - First Concert

Come join me for If I Could Blog Back Time Thursdays! We'll be taking time out to share some memories. We'll Blog Back Time with possible ways to right past wrongs or about how times have changed. We'll share childhood memories, school/work memories, family and friend memories.
Today's topic is: First Concert
Every year my Mom would take us to the Wisconsin State Fair and we attend the Grandstand shows. We'd see groups like B.J. Thomas, England Dan & John Ford Coley, Andy Gibb, Donny & Marie, K.C. & The Sunshine Band. I never really counted those as concerts. Sure they were, but my Mom went with my sister and I and it was just the Wisconsin State Fair. It wasn't the Milwaukee Auditorium and it wasn't the Milwaukee Arena.

My first real concert, was Rush, December 7, 1978. 38 Special opened for them. Tickets were a whopping $8.50!

It was our first concert without Mom accompanying us and it felt so grown-up to drive my sister and myself in my car. It was probably a good thing my Mom didn't go with us, considering the only concerts she took us to were family type shows. Rush was the first concert where I smelled smoke that wasn't cigarettes. We weren't smoking, we were too goody-two shoes for that.

It was an odd choice for a first concert, considering I really didn't know much of their music, but we still had a good time.

  3. I do not think I ever went to a Rock or Country Concert as I kid. My Mom used to take us to Highland Park in Rochester NY to see Outdoor Plays, like Madam Butterfly, Shakespeare- A-mid Summer Night Dream and other one. They had a orchestra playing, perhaps that qualifies;-> We would walk to the Park lugging our chairs and Blankets. Mom would pack food, I would meet my friends and while we waited for the play to start we would run away the Park. I remember the smell of the Lilacs. Every time I smell Lilacs I remember the Plays! thank for the memory. :-)

  6. I didn't get to see Rush until I was in college. Man, it was worth the wait. They were awesome.

As for my first concert, I'm not telling. But I do remember it.

  7. @ Sandee - Yes, it was fun.

@ Kirsten - Yes, between me, you and my 250-300 visitors per day. Lol!

@ Auntie E - Nice memory. I love the smell of Lilacs. It reminds me of my mother. She had several large bushes in the back yard. Last year Anastasia planted about 6 bushes in front of our porch, I can't wait for them to bloom. I'll be out there every morning with my cup of coffee when they do.

@ Megryansmom - Bob Seger is a good first concert.

@ Susan Helen Gottfried - Oh come on, you have to tell!
