Anastasia went back in the hospital on Saturday. They only did blood work and continue to say she has a viral infection in her small bowel and they can't treat it, they say she just has to ride it out. All they can do is treat her symptoms which is constant vomiting and diarrhea, then dehydration.
She had a different ER doc yesterday who said she should have been sent home with a prescription for an anti-nausea medication when she was discharged on Tuesday. That would have been nice for her not to suffer 4 days and have to go back! Bunch of ass hats! We even asked if she should go home with any prescriptions and they said no. She was so dehydrated yesterday it took 4 extremely painful tries for the blood work and IV.
She was supposed to get out today, but now she has a UTI for which they are giving her antibiotics (hopefully not yet another one she is allergic too. She has had 2 medications since this whole problem started that caused allergic reactions.) Now we're not sure when she is coming home. Poor thing. Before I took her back to the hospital yesterday she was vomiting shortly after she ate anything, no matter what it was. She said her throat was on fire from all the stomach acid coming up and it still feels like she has a golf ball in her throat. She also had constant diarrhea. She's been just miserable and cranky as hell. To say that you just have to ride something this bad out is just horrible. Even when she was just having ice chips, she still was throwing up stomach acid.
You can be sure though that we are not leaving the hospital without prescriptions for the nausea. It is just absurd to make someone suffer like this when there is no reason she should have to. When she had the anti-nausea medicine in the hospital the first time she was actually able to eat hospital food and not throw up. (Yes! Hospital food! And we know that's the worst and she still was able to keep it down because of the anti-nausea medicine.)

I am so sorry that she is still struggling. Doctors are so weird. Some are so stingy with prescriptions other give them out like Pez. One of the last times my nine year old was sick, I took him to the doctor. He had a fever and had thrown up ONCE and they gave him the shot for anti-nausea AND gave us a prescription!
ReplyDeleteI hope things get better soon!
sheesh! it's been a busy week and i'm just now starting to catch up! so sorry to hear about this! :( sending positive healthy energy that way!
ReplyDeletep.s. i'm so jealous that you guys only have one more day til school starts!!! i've still got like 2 weeks!! ack!
@ StaceyC4 - The doctors are either drug pushers or don't prescribe anything. It's like there is no in between
ReplyDelete@ Diane - Our son started last week Tuesday! I've been counting the minutes until my daughter starts. She's a real handful when she doesn't have the structure of a regular routine. I don't think I could make it another 2 weeks. Lol!
Yikes! Hope she can get some relief soon!
ReplyDeleteVisiting you today from Harriet's site...
After my last surgery they sent me home with no anti-nausea and I was sick for 3 days. Then I remembered that one of my readers is a nurse and I contacted her and she couldn't BELIEVE the dr. hadn't given me any. Doctors are so often wrong and nurses rule. She's on my sidebar, Heidi's Notes from Vermont. Mention my name. Heidi is a GINORMOUS SWEETHEART.
ReplyDeleteI hope that she gets to feeling much better soon! Doctors suck!! It is just like they don't care or something.... I am allergic to a lot of antibiotics too so I hope that they found one to work for her :)
ReplyDeleteOh poor baby, I feel so bad for her. Sometimes I really hate doctors! Half the time they have no idea what they are doing yet love to pretend that they do.
ReplyDeleteI hope she feels better soon. Give her a big hug for me.
