What to rent???

I thought perhaps since some of us may be looking at a long weekend ahead because of Snow Storm 2010 (have the tv weather guys had the graphic made up for that yet?) it might be good to get some recommendations for movies to rent.

I have Blockbuster Online and I always have great difficulty picking movies. I don't know why, I just do. Even as I look at the New Releases I have difficulty picking anything I'd like to see. Of course I do love classic movies like Casablanca, but these are some newer movies I enjoy.

Here are a few movie's I'd recommend:
1. After Hours (1985). (Martin Scorsese, Director) I love this quirky movie. I've seen it several times. It follows 1 night in the life of an ordinary word processor who decides to take a walk on the wild side.

2. Donnie Darko (2001). Again, I've seen this several times, each time I notice something I missed before. Don't let the plot summary steer you away, it's not all about the bunny visions. And I absolutely love the song "Mad World" by Michael Andrews. Much better than the Tears For Fears version.

3. Park (2006). It takes place all in one day in a park in Los Angeles. It was an unexpectedly fun movie.

4. Little Miss Sunshine (2006). I didn't expect to like this one as much as I did. I'm always skeptical of movies that do well at the box office and get good reviews.

    I LOVE Little Miss Sunshine. I love the quirky family that sticks together no matter what--it's a feel good movie and I liked that. The quirky family sort of reminds me of my own--I'd like to think we all come together when we need to.

    We recently got the DVD for an old HBO series of The Larry Sanders Show which was hysterical! We used to love it while it was on back in the early 90's. I'd pick series television because it will take you a while to get through it all.

    James Bond anything, and I also love love love to watch reruns of The Nanny anytime I can find it on TV!

    My all time fav movie, that I can watch over and over and laugh every single time, is Turner and Hooch (with Tom Hanks) We got this in the mail, from Netflix, and I LOVE it! I was in tears because I was laughing so hard!!!!

    Okay, five movies I'd recommend? Anything with Hugh Grant in it. Therefore----

    1. Love Actually (best movie ever)
    2. Notting Hill
    3. About a Boy

    The best Tom Hanks movies ever--

    4. Big
    5. You've Got Mail

    I know. I know. Those are all romantic comedies. Can't help it. I'm a romantic who likes to laugh.

    I know your kids are way grown, but
    my husband, adult son and 10 yr old grandson watched the Pixair movie "UP". It was reallllllly great. If you are ever out of real movies to watch, this should be on the top of the list. "Ferris Buellur's Day Off" has to be on the best movie ever list too. thanks for your great posts Lola.

    If you are looking for a series to start I agree on Six Feet Under. I watched it on DVD before they started playing the reruns on TV and I still enjoy watching it again.

    We watched most of 24, Season 5 this weekend. Thank goodness we did not get all the snow they predicted.

    3) 4 rooms- a must see!
    4) pulp fiction- go, hunny bunny!
