Don't Take Your Kids To Work Some Schools Ask - Chicago Tribune.
I'm not working, so I won't be participating this year. I have participated at several of my jobs in the past. My most recent job at a real estate company, the VP planned a special luncheon for the parents and children. At my previous job at a small village government, tours were planned for the Police and Fire Departments, and the Water Department. Lunch was also served.
I always thought it was a great idea and I'm a little miffed that they are considering switching the date to a day during Summer Break. The whole point of the event is to have the children share their experience the next day at school.
Are you participating with any of your children? Has your school put you on notice not to participate? What do you think of the proposed date change?

I can't believe that there would be so many parents bringing their kids in to work that the schools would be harmed by that. We don't do anything like that where we work, but my husband's former employer used to really plan a nice day for the kids. They went all out with various stations to learn things, make things, and have some time with their parents. The actual time at the parent's desks was actually very short, which is probably a smart idea.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard boo about this from my kids' school and my husband works for a health care company that provides computer software, maintenance and tech support for hospitals across the country.
ReplyDeleteAs in, if the computer stuff is effed up some life support machines will be effed up in a hospital somewhere. They actually have codes for the pages that come in: Priority One, Priority Two and Priority Three.
The shit is most definitely hitting the fan on a Priority One page. Consequently, children are not allowed in his building.
I swear I am not kidding. There's proprietary software at work there, and the issue of effing up the life support software is another big deterrent.
So.
My husband will not be taking my kids to work tomorrow.
The kids are on spring break this week so have done all my running around with me and see just exactly what I do when they are at school to keep the house running in order. If that isn't a take your kids to work day, then I don't know what is. Including "If you want to go with me, get your butts outta bed". That was at 8am this morning. So much for sleeping in.
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of this here by me but being that I'm unemployed, too, there wouldn't be much for them to see. My younger son would probably love to go and paint with his dad but my older son would rather die than do something manual!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know they were still doing this! I haven't seen anyting on TV or the internet about it in years.
