Sunday Stealing-Silly Questions

Hi! Our host is Bev Sykes of the blog "Funny the World". . Welcome to Sunday Stealing.  Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves!

1.    What’s the weirdest smell you have ever smelled? 🤷🏻‍♀️

 2.   What would be the hat to end all hats? What could you wear on your head that would make people stop what they are doing and stare in awe and amazement?
Definitely a Carmen Miranda fruit hat.

 3.    What is something that everyone looks stupid doing? Walking down a hospital hallway wearing a gown that never quite closes in the back.

 4.   In 40 years, what will people be nostalgic for?
Dining in restaurants? With all the various delivery services people seem to already be dining out less.

 5.   How do you feel about putting pineapple on pizza?
It’s great with Canadian Bacon.

 6.   If animals could talk, which would be the rudest?
Cats.

 7.   What’s the best type of cheese? Blue cheese or Brie.

 8.   Where is the strangest place you’ve urinated or defecated?
When I was a kid we ice skated where water pooled and froze in a field not far from my house. It wasn’t a pond. Anyway, I needed to go and I wanted to walk home, no one would go with me, so I had to go behind a tree.

 9.    In one sentence, how would you sum up the internet?
A necessity.

10.   Which insect could you happily do without seeing for a good long time?
Mosquitos. When I get bit I blister, so I don’t only deal with itching.

11,   What is the most embarrassing thing you have ever worn?
Do I have to admit this? In junior high I had a pair of plaid wide leg cuffed pants. If you’ve heard of and seen the Bay City Rollers, they wore plaid pants just like them. Mine were a red, yellow, blue plaid. Note the wide cuffs. I was really styling!

12.  What’s the weirdest thing a guest has done at your house? I can’t think of anything.

13.  Is cereal soup? Why or why not? No. Soup has a broth. Cereal is either dry or with milk.

14.   What is the sexiest and least sexy name?
Pass.

15.   What fictional character is amazing in their book / show / movie, but would be insufferable if you had to deal with them in mundane everyday situations?
I saw someone said Sheldon from Big Bang Theory. Sheldon from Young Sheldon is more insufferable.

(Thanks, Bud!)

1.    When you looked at yourself in the mirror today, what was the first thing you thought? I look tired.

2.    What shirt are you wearing? I’m wearing an old Sponge Bob Square Pants t-shirt. It’s seen better days, so it’s either my night shirt, or my cleaning shirt.

3.    Do you label yourself? I’m gay.

4.    What does your watch look like? It’s an Apple 7 iWatch with a blue band.

5.    What were you doing at midnight last night? Actually sleeping. I went to bed at 11:30pm, which is early for me. It had been 1:30am/2am, but for the past month I’ve gotten on a more reasonable sleep schedule.

6.    Last furry thing you touched? My cat Maddux.

7.    Favorite age you have been so far? About 40. That’s when I came out to myself.

8.    What is your current desktop picture? Desktop? I don’t work, so I don’t have a desk to put pictures on. I do have a desk at home, but I hang my pictures on the walls.

9.    If you had to choose between $1,000,000 or to be able to fly what would it be? Dumb question. Why would I want to fly? I’d basically be a target in the sky. Besides, with the money I could fly anywhere in the world, I could charter a plane. I’ll take the $1,000,000 in cash please.

10.  The last song you listened to? No clue.

11.  What time of day were you born? I don’t know. It’s been awhile since I’ve looked at my birth certificate. I can tell you what time of day my kids were born.

12.  Where did you live in 1987? In Wisconsin with my Dad. I was getting ready to move to Chicago in 1988, so I was buying things I knew I’d need a bit at a time.

13.  What do you do when vending machines steal your money?Sometimes I feed more money in, in an effort to dislodge my selection that didn’t drop. If it just plain stole it, I might cuss.

14.  Would you move for the person you loved? Yes.

15.  Name three things that you have on you at all times? Wallet, keys, cell phone.

16.  What’s your favourite town/city? I think the place I grew up. It seems like it’s been forever since I’ve visited.

17.  What was the last thing you paid for with cash? Wrapping paper and a bow at Dollar Tree.

18.  When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper and mailed it? It was some time last year. I tried looking up a friend I hadn’t been in touch with, found an address and wrote a letter and mailed it. Didn’t get a reply.

19.  The last time you dressed fancy, what did you wear? It’s been a few years before the pandemic. We attended a wedding. I think I wore a blouse, blazer, and slacks.

20.  Does anything hurt on your body right now? Do ya really want to go there? I haven’t done these posts for awhile because when I attempt them, they turn into a pity party. The steroids for my kidney condition have worsened the arthritis in my lower back and hips tremendously. It’s really painful to try to stand up straight, walk, use the stairs. It’s constant and very different from the pain I had from the car accident and back surgery. This pain is much, much worse. I’ve also had 2 falls last weekend.

Sunday Stealing-Blabbermouth

1. January usually has ample amounts of snowfall in parts of the world. Did you ever make snow cream as a kid?
No.

2. January is one of the months with 31 days. What are you going to do with that extra day?
Hopefully something fun.

3. In medieval times superstition dictated that the 1st day of January was significant for prosperity, or lack of it, in a person's life. Farmers put a flat cake on the horns of a cow and they danced and sang songs around the cow until the cake was thrown to the ground. If it fell in front of the cow that meant good luck; it if fell behind the cow that meant bad luck for the rest of the year.
Do you have strange New Year customs in your household?
We’ve done Hoppin’ John (Emeril Lagasse’s recipe) and Collard Greens for years. Supposed to bring good luck. Not so much. We took a chance this year and skipped it.

4. On January 14, 1986 motorists were required for the first time to wear seat belts? Do you always buckle up? Why or why not?
Nearly always. Gas station is a block and a half from my house, sometimes I don’t buckle up on the ride home. Which is stupid, because statistically, I aren’t most accidents close to home? That’s always been my experience anyway. Also, the 2000 Blazer has driver seat belt connections that are near impossible to latch. Twist, turn, jam, stab, it sometimes takes me 20 minutes unless I ask my passenger to give it a go. I used to have a GM Seatbelt extender and I’m thinking that would work perfectly. Click that thing into the seatbelt and leave it there and then just click the seatbelt into the extender. I have no idea where it is, and I’ve looked for one online and haven’t found one.

5.. Have you ever blabbermouthed something to a significant other that in hindsight you really should have kept to yourself?
I probably have, but I don’t recall what it was.

6. Have you ever written anything on your blog that you wish you could take back?
Of course! That’s when I change the status from Publish to Draft and bam! It’s not on my blog page.

7. Are you the blabber or the blabbee? Tell us your most embarrassing blabbermouth moment.
I was having an estate sale at my Dad’s house. A woman got to talking to me about housing prices in the area. There was a very small ranch with an above ground pool that sold on the very high side for its size. It was in the comps the realtor showed me. I made a comment about how that was high and how the buyer was foolish to pay that (or words to that effect). Guess who I was talking to? The buyer of that house! I wanted to crawl in a hole and die. I made such a big deal about the price being too high. I lived in Chicago at the time, so the embarrassment was relatively short-lived.

8. Who is the biggest blabbermouth tattletale in your household?
Growing up? Not me. I didn’t have many friends and kept to myself, so I wasn’t in a position to get gossip, nor was I in a position to spread it.

9. You are the Blog Paparazzi! Which blogger's real photograph are you most interested in getting?
Not interested. The bloggers I’ve known since the beginning, my regular commenters, I’ve met in person. We had a coffee get together, and a blogger I had already met with one I hadn’t, met in downtown Chicago when the blog convention was there. I didn’t go to the convention. I think I met up with them after work. I worked downtown.

10. If you could hire the loudest and most skilled blabbermouth in the universe to do your talking for you and advertise it well, what message would you like to spread to humanity?
Pass. Not my thing.

11. Are you always on time or just a tad late?
I’m typically always early for medical stuff, late for our lunches with my father-in-law. (He doesn’t live close and wants us there by 10am. I just can’t do it.) We always were late for breakfast with our older couple friends, but the last 4 breakfasts we got there before they did. Yes!!!

12. Is there someone in your life that irritates you regularly about not being on time?
See #11 and connect the dots.

13. Can you think of a time when you were late for something and it was REALLY a big deal?
I can’t recall. Back when I was working I made sure I was early for anything. The lateness has just been as stated in #11.

14. If you were on your way to work and had five minutes to get there, would you stop in the road to rescue a crossing turtle?
I don’t work. But if a turtle crossed the road this time of year I’d wonder how it got there. It’s below freezing. I’d drive around when it was safe to do so for the turtle, myself, and surrounding traffic, if I really couldn’t wait.

15. Have you ever had to actually punch a time clock?
Yes. All my jobs in WI I punched a time clock. I don’t think I punched a time clock at any jobs since I moved to IL.

1. Would you rather be the guest or the host?
Even though it’s more work, I’d rather be the host. I enjoy entertaining but haven’t out of an abundance of caution with the pandemic.

2. What do you like to wear when you feel fancy?
OMG! This is so sad! Normally I wear a track suit or sweat pants and a hoodie. If I’m feeling fancy I will put on a pair of blue jeans. If I’m feeling really, really fancy, I’ll wear my olive green skinny jeans.

3. How often do you try something completely new?
It’s probably been a long time.

4. Do you enjoy weddings?
I didn’t used to. Kind of hated them. Then I had my son and he’s been my dance partner at weddings since he was 3 years old. He danced with me the entire reception when I married my wife. He saved me from a drunken night and bad hangover. He kept my mind off the fact that none of my family attended (other than my adult children). And we both had a blast!!!

5. Have you ever had something customized? Yes. For my first wedding I had my Mom’s wedding and engagement rings customized/changed up. I’m sure there are other things that I can’t think of now.

6. Do you cook spontaneously or meal plan?
We plan, but not in detail. Grocery shopping I’ll buy meats and vegetables. Then the day before or day of we decided how to prepare the meat and vegetables.

7. Books you like to read over and over.
I tend not to read books over and over. I do stick to a genre, but I don’t read the same book more than once.

8. What are you really good at?
A lot of things 😉

9. Do you sleep with windows open or a fan on?
Heck no! We still don’t have a working furnace, so oil filled radiators heat our home and raise our electric bills to ridiculous amounts. Windows are covered in plastic and have thermal curtains. No fan because I can’t tolerate it with my chronic back and shoulder pain.

10. What is the easiest recipe you know?
Probably an omelette. Can’t go wrong with that, and you can change up the ingredients.

11. Are you comfortable starting conversation with strangers?
Not completely comfortable, but I’ve gotten tremendously better at it since I’ve become my Mom. Lol!

12. Do you prefer quiet, or ambient noise when you relax?
Either is fine.

13. Who is your most adventurous or exciting friend?
Don’t really have one.

14. What do you eat when you can’t decide what to eat?
Depends how hungry I am. If I need a snack, pb on no salt top saltines. For a meal hunger…quesadillas. Super fast and tasty when served with salsa and/or sour cream.

15. Do you have any funny pet stories?
Yes. I’ll give one dog and one cat story. Dog story:  A year after I moved to Chicago I moved to a larger apartment that allowed pets, so I got a puppy. Springer Spaniel/Terrier mix, black and white. He was so shy at the shelter, hiding behind his siblings. He was the one! One day I came home from work to a blizzard of torn up foam from my vintage sofa. Cleaned up, packed the bigger pieces into the cushions and zipped them shut figuring I would get new foam that weekend. Came home the next day to another blizzard. Cleaned up, examined the cushions and saw no tears, cuts or holes. That meant he was UNZIPPING the cushions to get to that fun foam. After I got replacement foam and cut it to size, stuffed the cushions, I sewed the zipper pulls to a cushion corner for each. No more foam blizzards!

Cat story: Our gray American shorthair had been disappearing for long periods. (This was days before I had her scheduled to be “fixed”.) I had my son go in search of her in the early hours of the day the procedure was scheduled and took her to the clinic for her appointment. Vet didn’t say anything was out of the ordinary, did the procedure and I picked her up late that day. Got home, she took off the minute she got out of the carrier and disappeared. A short while later my son said he kept hearing meowing, and he went in search of the sound in the den. Turns out she had a litter of kittens sometime between a week to a few days before her surgery. This was not at all intentional. I had no idea she was pregnant. All the cats ended up being healthy.

This and that

This week has been busy with medical appointments and so will next week.

Ok, most recent first.
Took the Blazer to the shop Wednesday. Grinding brake noise and slipping. Our mechanic drove it last week and didn’t detect any brake issues. Wednesday he picked me up and we went for a ride and he said to let him know when it starts doing either or both. For awhile, nothing. Then I started to hear it and pointed both out, and he did feel the slip. So the Blazer spent another day in the shop. I kept telling my wife that it either needs new brakes, has a broken caliper, or needs the wheel bearings replaced and repacked. Late in the day I get a call. I got 2 out of 3! New brake pads (under warranty), and the wheel bearings on one side had to be replaced and repacked. At least we didn’t have to pay for the brake job.

I paid the bill and left to run an errand. My wife lagged behind a bit chatting. Then I get a call from the mechanic’s number, it’s my wife, she left her phone in the Buick, can she meet me where I am. Yes. Then it takes forever for her to do a 5 minute drive. Turns out she was in a car accident. 4 way stop intersection. My wife had the right of way and was fully in the intersection when a lady blew the stop sign, did not even slow down. She just caught the passenger bumper. My wife was lucky she didn’t get spun around or flipped. This is the extent of the damage to the Blazer:

Yup! That’s it. The other car? License plate came off the bumper, bumper covering came off, passenger front quarter panel all smashed up.

It was very hard to find time to make any calls or get any chat customer service. Last week I spent at least 2 hours on AT&T chat to try to resolve my totally screwed up bill. First, I already had a 4 device protection plan that covers any 4 devices in your home. We’ve used it several times. When I bought 2 Apple 7 iWatches on Christmas Eve (1 for me, 1 for my wife), that’s when the changes were made. The sales person (at a Corporate store) removed my 4 device protection plan and put all 4 iPhones and 2 iWatches on individual protection plans. That person also did not put my wife’s iWatch on the account, and instead added an iPhone 8 (never had one, never saw one, never touched one). THIS is why I have been unable to pair her iWatch to her iPhone. This means I paid for service that I never got because that iWatch’s IMEi number isn’t on my account. Also, I discovered that even though I continue to have the data plan that gives you $10 off per line, they removed ALL my credits from my iPhones and they’d never applied that credit to the iWatches. I still need to contact them to get all of this straightened out. They are wasting a ton of my time with this screwing around with my account. And…my wife has yet to use her Christmas present! Grrr!

1. Do you buy things when you want them or wait for sales? I nearly always wait for sales, unless I have an urgent need for something that’s not on sale.

 2. Do you think time moves slowly or quickly? Too quickly.

 3. How often do you spend time alone? Quite a bit with all the quarantining I’ve had to do the last several weeks due to medical procedures.

 4. What’s something that has changed in the last month? I got word Thursday that my kidney issues are taking to the treatment my doctors prescribed.

 5. What’s the best part of your job, profession? That it made me smart enough to purchase short term disability insurance. It helped tremendously after my car accident before it rolled over to long term disability that the company paid for. I was an accountant.

 6. How many pens do you have? 🤣🤣🤣I have no way of knowing.

 7. What are your healthiest habits? Reverently reading nutrition labels when deciding what to buy. Now I’m looking at sodium levels. When I first found out I had kidney problems I was looking at phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium. Now it’s just sodium.

8.. Do you have a favorite postage stamp? No.

 9. Who did you talk to the most this week? My wife. Probably always my wife. I did actually call my sister to give her the news about my Dr appointment. I usually get super irritated (😡) because when she knows I have medical stuff going on she hounds me the day of. She didn’t do that this time, so I called her. I guess my wife really gave her a piece of her mind the last time my sister was hounding me.

 10. What’s on your bedside table? Bottle of water, Candles, medications.

 11. How often do you try something new? Whenever something appeals to me. So however often that happens.

 12. What are some of your grocery list staples? Cereal, coffee, veggies-fresh, frozen, canned, soups or soup ingredients to make my own soup, keto bread or white bread (can’t have wheat bread), or bagel thins.

 13. Do you have a favorite poet? My son.

 14. What interesting fact do you know? I’m sure more than my fair share.

 15. Do you fold laundry right away or do it later? I fold it when I feel well enough and have the time. With the back pain and now all the pain of 2 falls (Tuesday and Friday), I can only do things in short bursts, or wait for tomorrow to be less pain.

Sunday Stealing-How Far Will You Go?

How Far Will You Go?

Hi! Our host is Bev Sykes of the blog "Funny the World". . Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves!

Stolen from How Far Will You Go?

1.  What was the warmest welcome you’ve ever received? I don’t know…maybe my surprise birthday party in 2021. There were guests that I never expected would go so far out of their way to attend.

2.  What was the best thing about your youth? My Mom. Not only was she a great Mom to my sister and I, she was also Mom of the neighborhood. She was a SAHM, one of the few left on our block. She kissed boo boos, gave hugs, gave treats, and tried to impart some coping skills, or better ways to handle what made them upset.

3.  Who is the most interesting person you’ve ever met? Our couple friends. They both worked for a utility and have fascinating stories. Some of them about near Chernobyl events.

4.  What is the least you’ve ever worn in public? A bathing suit.

5. What was the worst vacation you ever took? In order to answer this I would actually have to take vacations. I’ve been to Florida twice. The 2nd time was uncomfortable and painful, but I wouldn’t classify it as a “worst vacation”. My sister and I drove to Florida and the Keys. At the end of the stay in the Keys I had a dental issue that required a root canal. We drove all the way back to Wisconsin where I had to find a dentist.

6.  What room in your home do you spend the most time? Master bedroom.

7.  Who made the strongest first impression on you? I don’t know that I could think of one.

8.  What was the most surprising action you’ve ever taken. Oh there have been many. I’ll list the most obvious…coming out to myself first, then to my grade school aged children. Children understand more than you know and they really don’t have the preconceived notions adults do on the subject, and it just rolls off them like you just told them tomorrow is Saturday. They don’t seem to feel it affects you or them any differently. (Of course that is if you raised your children right and never marginalized, were hateful towards LGBTQA people, or spoke in bad hateful terms about the subject.)

9.  When was your life most out of control? Right now seems like it. Too many health things going on at the same time. Doctors only telling you worst case scenario’s, not even mentioning what the not so worrisome things it could be until after test results are available. I think they should tell you both to be both prepared for the worst, but also cognizant of the not so bad things it could be. It certainly would have saved me a lot of angst and lost sleep. I never knew what the best case scenario was. And I was fortunate enough to find out that my test results were the best case scenario.

10.  What would you be best at, were you to change careers? I did go to college for accounting and spent my entire career doing some type of accounting for different types of businesses. I always thought that if I would change careers I would want to get involved in social work, or working at a place like my daughter receives services at. Both my kids illness have taught me a lot of stuff you don’t learn in college and taught me to recognize the crackpot providers. (Of which there are many. I always used to say that some mental health providers come by their profession from personal/family experience. Quite a few were more messed up than the patients.) In addition to my kid’s illnesses, I’ve been exposed to other illnesses while visiting my kids daily during hospitalizations and I got to see a lot of kids with different illnesses, how they presented, and how staff handled situations.

11.  What is the cruelest thing a person has ever said to you? The very cruelest thing I think I’ve blocked out, but generally it was nasty comments and belittling me for being a fat kid.

12.  What is the best thing you ever won as a prize? Let me go check…well…I can’t say it’s a big lottery jackpot, but I won $1 Thursday and Friday night. I know I’ve won other things, but I don’t think I’d refer to any of them as “the best”.

13, What is your strongest argument against capital punishment? In general I am for capital punishment, however, it concerns me a lot when I see in the news stories about sloppy convictions. The ones that bothers me the most are the cases of the mentally ill, or people with learning disabilities (previously referred to as mentally retarded). Those 2 classes of prisoners shouldn’t be rushed through the courts, and in some cases should be changed to life in prison, or rehabilitation and release (where possible).

14.  What have you been most ignorant about in life? The selfishness of others. Right now you could say we have a pandemic of selfishness.

15.Where would you most hate to be pierced? Umm…my lady bits. I’ve heard from some people that their experience was not one of pain. But who can be sure what anyone’s personal experience will be before going through with being pierced?
