As I get questions, I'll begin adding my answers below.
Keep the questions coming!
Still taking questions on Friday!
cardiogirl asks: Are you as social in real life as you are on the web? I know you've met up a time or two with some fellow Chicago-ans (?) including Lin, but I wonder if you are immediately comfortable chit chattin' with strangers in real life. In 4 words...hell to the no. I used to be a painfully shy child. I've probably improved a 100 fold. In a lot of ways the improvement started when I 'came out' and started dating. You can't get a date being a wallflower. Now that I'm dating again...yes, let this be my official announcement...Anastasia and I have broken up. She did the breaking up, no more details are necessary here. Yes, I've been in pain, yes I've been hurt, but my reaction in this circumstance is to get back on the horse after I've fallen. I've struggled for some time about if or how to mention it on my blog. In any case, this means I need to 'get my extrovert on'. I'm trying to get back into that groove. To that end, I am getting involved in starting a suburban lesbian social group. I'm also participating in other existing lesbian social groups and have my profile out on various sites. So in answer to your question, I'm going to be getting very comfortable talking to strangers in real life. Lol!
Jen asks: I just wondered if you had any ideas for dinner? My kids are getting really sick of the same old thing. got any new recipes that fast and easy? Chicken Enchiladas? Chicken Curry? Chicken, beef or pork fried rice?
Fried Rice
leftover chicken, beef, pork or shrimp (or you can use browned ground beef or canned chicken)
eggs
bean sprouts
frozen peas and carrots
soy sauce
sesame oil
cooked rice
Scramble the eggs and break into small pieces, set aside. Put a couple of drops of sesame oil in a wok or large frying pan. Saute the meat in the oil and heat the meat through. Defrost peas and carrots. Add egg, peas and carrots, bean sprouts and rice to the pan. Toss until combined. Add soy sauce to taste (don't add too much at a time) . Continue to toss until everything is coated with soy sauce and it is heated through. The sesame oil is what makes this resemble Chinese take-out Fried Rice.
Meg asks: I remember reading somewhere that you are in the Chicago area. Have you been to Geja's restaurant in Chicago? That is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. I used to live in Chicago, now I live in the burbs. No, I haven't been to Geja. I've been to Fondue Stube, which is similar, but I heard Geja is better. I love fondue!
LJ Ducharme asks: A question?? Any question?? What has been your least favourite place to visit and why? Yes, any question! Probably northern Michigan. A previous ex dragged me and my kids to visit her family. Driving endlessly with cornfields on either side of the road. If she didn't know the way, I would have gotten totally lost. (No GPS back then.) It was all the same. The family wasn't hospitable, her Baptist church was worse and there wasn't a darn thing to do out there. B-o-r-i-n-g! Thanks for participating! Stop by again!
JD at I Do Things asks: How did you come up with the name/idea "Lola's Diner"? Has your blog evolved from what you originally planned? My thoughts were always of the old fashioned diner. To evoke that sense of familiarity. The lunch counter, a meeting place. An exchange of ideas. Commenting on the issues of the day, the things that concern all of us. Politics, current events, parenting (but not so much, because I don't consider this a "Mommy blog"), and GLBT issues. I'm not sure it has evolved as I had originally planned. Seeing so many blogs with lots of comments, I still feel like I haven't arrived. While I have a decent number of followers, many are lurkers and that disappoints me a bit. Great question!
