There Goes The Neighborhood

What, you thought I was going to regale you with another tale of Drummer Boy, aka Metallica-head or Mr. Friendly? Or perhaps some new neighbor? No, we actually haven't met the new neighbor yet.

No, this is a new 7 episode reality show set to air in August. There Goes The Neighborhood - CBS Reality Show.

"Eight families in a suburban neighborhood who are enclosed by a massive 20-foot wall as they compete in family-friendly games for the grand prize of $250,000."
Cut off from the outside world -
No way in
No way out
No electricity
No television
No internet
No telephone
No cell phone
No texting
Each week a family will be voted out.
Could your family do it?

No way in/out - Shoot! I could do that hands down, no problem. I'm home bound most of the time anyway, so this wouldn't be all that new.

No electricity - Hmm, I would miss certain necessities, like a refrigerator, freezer, coffee maker.

No television - There's nothing on this time of the year anyway. I think I could deal if I had some playing cards or reading materials.

No internet? I've gone without DSL for a few days now and I've warned Anastasia more than once that I'm about to crack. We're talking disruption to my routine and the fact that our finances are keeping me on lock down.

No telephone/cell phone/texting - I mostly just call/text Anastasia or the kids, so since this "social experiment" required everyone to be together, phoning them would not be necessary.

I know for certain I couldn't do it with any of my current neighbors. I find it practically impossible to be cordial to Drummer Boy, aka Metallica-head. It's something about those late night jams, the same repetitive drum riff until you feel like you're going to go insane, or his dog running lose and terrorizing our son. And Mr. Friendly...he's just not friendly. How can you be friendly with someone who has been blatantly unfriendly for nearly 4 years? Our other neighbors that we know, Sue and her husband are alright. They just like to start drinking brewskis at 10am. Not personally knowing whether they are happy drunks or angry drunks, either way, it could be an issue for a community of 8 families.
So, how would your family do?
How would you do with your current neighbors?

I think we would be voted out week one -- we would terrorize our mostly childless, older neighbors. I'm pretty sure I could drop my youngest into any war zone and the enemy would surrender in about 2.3 seconds.....

Hmmm, let's see how I would do.

No in/no out is okay, I don't leave my house much either. But the no electricity/internet wouldn't work. Nope. Won't happen. People would die. It wouldn't be pretty. Plus, I need my coffee. Oh, and pretty much everything I can cook I do in the microwave.

I could maybe do without the tv, I actually have no cable or local tv anyway, but I do have my seasons of tv I've purchased on DVD. I could probably make do with my books though and no tv.

Oh, and I could do without the txting too, the only people I txt are my mom and my kids and presumably my kids would be there with me and not talking to my mom would be a pleasant vacation.

Have a great day!

I could probably do it. I go dark (not frills) often while boating. So, I could do this. Already don't have television so that wouldn't be a problem. Yep, I could pull this off.

Have a terrific day and weekend. :)

We don't really spend any time outdoors so we don't know our neighbors. I could probably make do without TV and Internet, but in the summer with no air conditioning, you wouldn't want to be around me.

Hey, we tent camp for fun, so this would be a breeze. I'm not sure how I could stand doing this with my current neighbors, but I know I could outlast them. They are all in the house with their air, TV and rock and roll on, so they would DIE without electricity. I'd so win on that account.

nada chance we'd last. 3 days tops, and then we'd all need some kind of recovery program :)

No way would I do that. I am so Used to the Modern days, lol. Even a little air conditioning would be nice right now. temp in the 100s' and climbing.... Just went to the Grand Canyon and saw some of athe Houses there. Sounds like the show,LOL. and No thanks for me. Now if my family would like to do it..I'll take the money, after all I am in charge of the finances and they do all the work,LOL.

I've gone a week without TV or Internet. I like most of our neighbors. I hate talking on the phone and I don't text.

But here's what bothers me:

"No way out."

I'd be hyperventilating and cold-sweating after about 10 minutes of knowing there was "NO WAY OUT!"

I think we'd be the first family voted off! I have a hard time with some of our neighbors, but I usually grin and bear it... I don't think that would be a good strategy here at all!!

I can so do this, all I need is a bathroom and toilet paper, honestly that's it. I'll give up the blow dryer! I already don't have a TV, not connected to the hip to technology, and wow could I dream to want that much money, imagine not worrying about paying bills, or adding up coins to get 3 gallons of gas!

My older daughter challenged me once to sit on a Harley in the dead of winter in Montana for some contest, I forget what you win, (maybe the Harley) but freezing in snow? and you can't go to the bathroom.
