Lola's Diner Remodeled

Remember when I posted Lola’s Lucky This Month and how I said if I won anything else this month I was going to the boats?

Well I’m going to the boats. Harriet @ I am Harriet held a Blog Makeover Contest in celebration of her 500th post. Guess who won?

Lola, la la la la Lo la, ah, Lola! Woo Hoo! I was so psyched when she told me.

For those of you who don’t know, in addition to Harriet’s blog, I am Harriet, she also has, Sited And Blogged and her new Sited And Blogged Contest Hub. In addition she also has a website called CreativeBlogMe, which is a Graphic Design site, designing blogs and websites. I don’t know how she does all she does all, but she does an awesome job!

So, how do you like the new digs? What do you think of the remodel? Make sure you click on the jukebox to insert a quarter!

I’m loving it! I think she did a fantastic job. If you’re in the mood for a blog makeover, be sure to visit her site, CreativeBlogMe and tell her Lola sent you.

Farrah's Story

How many of you watched “Farrah’s Story” Friday night? This was a program that was difficult to watch. In a way you have to admire Farrah Fawcett’s courage and spirit, but at times, watching it I just had to say to myself, she’s not being realistic. Chances are she will die from the cancer or some complication resulting from the cancer or cancer treatment. I'm sure her positive outlook has helped her through some difficult times.

My own Father was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes in 1989. It was a year before that I had moved to Chicago. A year after that diagnosis he became jaundiced. Tests were run and he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I drove down every weekend to visit him. I didn’t watch his day to day struggles, until the last few months of his life. After he had an unsuccessful surgery, he went into a hospice for a short period of time and then he went home to finish out his days. I spent 3 day weekends taking care of him, while my sister and her husband took care of him the rest of the week.

It’s not easy watching someone go through what Farrah Fawcett is going through and she has to be commended for having the courage to have cameras follow her through her journey. I don’t really know what she ultimately hoped to accomplish by doing this very personal documentary, still I found it compelling.

At one point during the show a doctor mentioned that it was now time for Ms. Fawcett to look at trying treatments that cause hair loss. He said that at the beginning of her treatment she wanted to avoid those kinds of treatment. My first thought, as was Anastasia's, was whatever works! Try the best treatments possible first and who cares about the hair loss. In fact, at the start of treatment I'd shave my head, thereby avoiding the trauma of hair loss. Now I certainly don't have long gorgeous locks like Ms. Fawcett, but where is her priority? Our thoughts were, 'take charge of it', don't let it take charge of you.

At my last job there was a woman who was a top agent at the real estate office that I worked at. She had breast cancer and yes, it was caught early enough to be treated successfully. She decided not to seek treatment because she didn't want to lose her hair. Yes, she died. This was a woman who was quite healthy before the cancer, physically fit, in good shape. She let her vanity take her life early. She passed away in 2006. Countless women before her got treatment and have lived long healthy lives. She did leave a beautiful corpse, though, didn't she?

The local news after the program mentioned that Mr. O'Neal had hoped that Ms. Fawcett could be brought out of a drug induced coma to watch the program. It's sad to know that her health has deteriorated to this point. I do hope she was able to see it. I find it deplorable that lawsuits are flying over her video diary, "Farrah's Story". Lawsuit, Health Woes Hang Over 'Farrah's Story'. I think it's time for everyone to give her and her family some peace.

To anyone who missed the airing on Friday, Farrah's Story is being repeated on several stations. Check your local listings, as I am not sure which time zone these listings are for.

I am so going to get in trouble for asking this, but weren't Blouson Tops 70's?

Have Blouson Tops come back?

I think that's all I can safely mention about the topic, even though I don't think the Mrs. will be reading this post.

RANTS

What is with Chrysler and GM chloroforming so many successful local dealerships in Illinois? No Haggle End For 100's of Chrysler Dealers. Who is going to stop these Mr. Potters and where is George Bailey when you need him? How is shuttering these viable businesses going to help the bottom line? It seems to me like both Chrysler and GM are destined to become the Packard and Studebaker of our times. What they really need to do is slash all those multi-layers of middle management and focus on producing products more in line with what the public demands.

When is my young man going to stop growing? A year ago I bought my 14 year old son a dress shirt and tie in a Men's size 17.5 neck. Last Friday was Career Day at school so he had to dress up. He put the shirt on and could not button the top button. Not even close! This Tuesday he had to dress up again, for extra credit for some class, or so he says. Last summer I got him a couple dress shirts at a yard sale, in new condition, he wanted to wear the striped shirt today, but his tie didn't match so Monday night we went to buy a tie. Tuesday morning he tries the shirt on, this one is a Men's size 18.5 neck and I could barely button it. I had to button it, tie the tie for him, then unbutton it so he could breathe. WTH? The kid is only 14! He seriously needs to stop growing. Anastasia was remarking the other day how he seemed bigger, broader shoulders, but his neck? The weird thing is, his pants are starting to hang, so he's losing weight in his waist. Arghhhh!

More politician shenanigans. Todd Stroger: Cook County Board President $12,000 Tax Lien. Why must all Illinois politicians embarrass us so?

Why does Blogojevich get to have 3 attorneys paid for out of his campaign fund? Each getting the same rate ($110 per hour) as court appointed attorneys. Why did the judge allow him to pay for these attorneys out of his campaign fund? This is so wrong! I've got an attorney tab that you wouldn't believe for issues with my ex and visitation/safety and I don't have a public fund to pay for it. WTH?

Drew Peterson with his stylish prisoner bling and fashionable jumpsuit is all over the news. Oh to be a fly on the wall...Drew Peterson, Stepbrother, Former Acquaintances Appear At Grand Jury.

Free Viagra: Pfizer Offers Free Viagra, Lipitor And Other Drugs To Uninsured, Jobless Americans which sounds like they should be applauded, but this is only for people who have lost their jobs since January 1st, 2009 and have been on the Pfizer drugs for at least 3 months prior. Once again, another ploy for publicity and hollow attempt to appear to be helping the unemployed. What about those of us who lost our jobs before January 1st and still don't have a job? What about those people? Just sweep them under the rug and maybe they'll go away, huh?

If I Could Blog Back Time Thursdays - Summer Vacation

Come join me for If I Could Blog Back Time Thursdays! We'll be taking time out to share some memories. We'll Blog Back Time with possible ways to right past wrongs or about how times have changed. We'll share childhood memories, school/work memories, family and friend memories.
Today's topic is: Summer Vacation
Remember Summer Vacation when you were a kid? Now they call it “Summer Break”. Back when I was a kid it seemed like it lasted forever. The bad part about becoming a grown-up is missing summer vacation. We were just so carefree. Summer seemed endless and we just never appreciated them at the time.
Sadly, my family never went on vacation. We took a road trip to Chicago once to visit my Dad’s Aunt who was 98 years old. That was some excitement for a 12 year old.

Even though we never went to Wisconsin Dells, Mount Rushmore or Disneyland like many of our friends did, my Mom always made sure we had fun things to do. My Mom didn’t drive, so everywhere we went, we took the bus.

When we were younger we would go to Brookfield Zoo (WI) and the museum. We also went to Summerfest, the Wisconsin State Fair, Festa Italiana every summer without fail. Every year we looked forward to attending these events. After I had my own children, we tried to keep up the tradition of going to the Wisconsin State Fair, even though we lived in Illinois. It was a nice 2-3 day getaway for us.

When the weather was good we’d ride our bikes all over and play ball in the street until dark and when it was rainy, we played in our basement or in Joey’s basement. At my house we’d played grocery store. We’d play board games at Joey's house.

Several of our neighbors had backyard pools, so when the weather was nice we had our pick of houses to go swimming at. It’s amazing what a backyard pool will do to strengthen your friendships. If you ever had a fight with one of your friends, you always made up when the weather got warm. Lol!

Every summer my friend Joey’s (Joanne’s) family had a Muscular Dystrophy Carnival.
Did anyone else ever have an MDA Carnival?

Joey's Mom set up booths in their back yard with carnival games and they charged admission. They sold lemonade, hotdogs, cookies and cupcakes. They even had a tent with a fortune teller (Joey’s Mom). Every year we looked forward to it and every year I begged my parents to let us hold our own carnival. Of course the answer was no, because if there already was a carnival on our block, why would anyone come to ours? Hmm, now that’s parent logic!

In Junior High Joey and I discovered tennis. We each got our own tennis rackets just before her family had a planned vacation to Wisconsin Dells. We sneaked out of our houses at 4am to play tennis on her driveway, using the driveway gate as a fence. Neither of our Moms knew we had sneaked out, until Joey's neighbor called her Mom to complain. (What kid is outside playing at 4am? Freaks like us, that's who!) I'll never forget my Mom's face as she stormed up Joey's driveway in her housecoat, and Joey's Mom flying out their back door in her housecoat. (Do they even sell housecoats anymore? Was that just a 60's Mom thing?) I'm betting it was really hard for both of them to keep their angry face on. Looking back I'm sure they had to laugh about it later, when we weren't around.

So, what's your Summer Vacation story? Come on! We all have at least one. Now it's your turn. Please post your Summer Vacation Memory on your blog. Entrecard Problems

Has anyone noticed that Entrecard is totally messed up 05/13/09 and today, 05/14/09?

I dropped 188 cards from Lola's Victory Garden on 05/13/09. I use Entrebar and it showed I dropped 188, as did the Welcome line above the Dashboard thru Help buttons on Entrecard's site.

My quickstats showed Zero, as did my Statistics on the Statistics page. In addition, both stats showed I only had 23 cards dropped on me, since around or before noon. There is no way this is correct, considering the amount of cards I dropped. I checked transactions and found none of my drops registered there either.

I have the same problem with my EC account for Fire Crotch Rocket. Thankfully I only dropped around 20.

I'm not a troublemaker, my stats really are messed up. I have nothing against Entrecard, I just want proper credit for my drops and for those that drop on me.

After midnight on 05/14/09 I dropped 30 cards from Lola's Diner and again, Quickstats and Statistics page show I dropped ZERO. Here is proof:
I bit of a close-up in case you couldn't see it above:
I have also noticed that my "Favorites" on EC are also messed up. Entrebar is pulling in blogs as my "Favorites" that I haven't EVER seen before.

If you use Entrebar and have more than 1 blog that you drop on, check your stats.

Has anyone else been experiencing these problems? If so, have you gotten any reply from EC?
UPDATE: 4:44pm - Since I did the screen capture of my EC Account Balance, my balance has DROPPED 156 EC credits for no reason. I HAVE NOT purchased any ads. In fact, I dropped about 10 ads since I did this mornings screen capture, so that means I am out 166 EC credits. Still no reply from Entrecard.
UPDATE: 8:07pm - Now this is my EC balance, after having done nothing after my last update. I got an email saying they credited me 166 EC, but that is not what I'm missing. WTH?

UPDATE: I just got this email from Entrecard:
Hello Lola,

Unfortunately, Entrecard experienced a database crash at the server level and all the databases had to be reset to a point prior to the crash. I apologize for this inconvenience.

Regards,
Len

Corpus Christi Movie Email Is A Hoax

One of my Aunts just forwarded me this email. The first thing I did was check the validity of it. Before you read on, please know that this is a version of an email that has been circulating since 2000 and it is not true. Please see these links to see for yourself:
Truth Or Fiction.com
Snopes.com
Urban Legends.About.Com
This is a portion of the email:
Subject: Fwd: Corpus Christi

The movie ‘Corpus Christi’ is due to be released this June to August. This disgusting film is set to appear in America later this year and it depicts Jesus and his disciples as homosexuals!

As a play, this has already been in theatres for a while. It's called Corpus Christi ' which means The Christ Body.' It's a revolting mockery of our Lord. But, we can make a difference. That's why I am sending this e-mail to you. If you do send this around, we may be able to prevent this film from showing in America and South Africa.

Apparently, some regions in Europe have already banned the film. We need a lot of prayers and a lot of e-mails.
The email goes on to ask you to forward this to everyone you know and quotes a Bible passage. It was all I could do to stop myself from quoting other Bible passages.

If you receive a version of this email, please hit "Reply All" as I did and reference the links above to let everyone that received that same email know it is false.

There is enough hate in the world without perpetuating it with false information.

An Engineer's Guide To Cats/Cat Yodeling Instructions

After my post, Dogs, our cat Sophie has requested equal time. In order to oblige her, I offer these 2 videos. You must watch them in their entirety and I am confident that you will not doubt the validity of these 2 gentlemen's claim to be engineers.

Sophie and I are a good match as we are both accomplished marathon loungers and we spend many hours a day in rigorous lounge training sessions. I occasionally will imitate her traditional feline slumber position as I sit before my laptop. How do I know I'm doing this? Because my children will laugh loudly and snicker and grab their camera phones. It's not pretty.

Ok, now that you've watched both videos, are you going to try cat yodeling?

Do you think these guy have significant others? I'm kind of thinking they're single, what do you think? Thinking back to the club music selection, perhaps Paul and T J (the engineers) are partners?
