What's Wrong With Our Youth/Get Off My Lawn

Ok, I'm old, it's official. I've joined the "Get Off My Lawn" Gang. When I type the next sentence, you will get it.

What the is the matter with our youth today? Whatever happened to trash-talking or ignoring that former friend that did you wrong? Is it really necessary to escalate things to physical violence? This is 2009, not caveman days.

Bond Set For Teens in Videotaped Beating.

The beating, hair cutting and car cigarette lighter burning took place in Park Forest, IL. They burned her face and arms with a car cigarette lighter. She also suffered a concussion.

This is appalling. I heard on Saturday night's news that there is talk that the beating was because the victim started dating a boyfriend of one of the assailants. Perhaps he just wasn't that into you little Miss Scissor wielding, teen? Whatever happened to trash-talking and ignoring? Is it really necessary to escalate things to physical violence? This teen is going to have scars on her face for life. If she wants her appearance "normal", she is going to have to wear hair extensions until her hair grows out.

TGIF! VGNO!

Photobucket

Harriet remembers the Hula Hoop @ I Am Harriet - VGNO!. But who remembers the Skip It?

For anyone interested, they still sell Skip It. They are available at ToysRUs.

At first when I brought it up Anastasia gave me a look like I was crazy, but then she remembered it. Since she's a bit younger than I am (hehehe) she had one with the counter. I didn't. Still fun though.

From Ann @ Ann Again...and again - Answer Me This

Do you have a favorite flower? I love, love, love Roses and Bearded Iris's. I really miss the Purple Bearded Iris's I had at my previous house. I really had wanted to divide them before I moved, but moving took up so much time I just couldn't fit it in. However, I absolutely adore the smell of Lilacs. We have Lilac bushes surrounding our front porch and the smell was just wonderful. I just wish they would bloom longer. What about you?

Oh, and in a few minutes I will be editing in a very, very special treat. Get those Margarita's ready girls, because you're going to need them!

Here is Drummer Boy, aka Metallica-head's accompaniment to the Red Hot Chili Peppers "Snow (Hey Oh)". Extra points to me for recognizing the song. Anastasia could not figure it out.

Drummer Boy accompaniment to Red Hot Chili Peppers "Snow (Hey Oh)" from Lola Bece on Vimeo.

Let me say that I recorded this video from my front porch, and that is really how loud it is from my front porch. Actually this was a bit more of a treat than usual. Normally Drummer Boy, aka Metallica-head, does not play the drums to music. Normally he plays solo, the exact same drum riff for hours. For those of you new to the diner, or missed my previous posts, Drummer Boy, aka Metallica-head, plays the drums or electric guitar till well past midnight some nights, some nights as late as 2am. He must have a friend at the sheriff's office because when we call to complain about the late our "noise", nothing happens. At least we know he doesn't have any friends at animal control. Get Off My Lawn/Busted, Get Off My Lawn/Busted Part 2.

Pour me another margarita, it's going to be a long night.

If you like what you see here, why not become a regular at the diner?

If I Could Blog Back Time Thursdays - Music Show

Come join me for a very special edition of If I Could Blog Back Time Thursdays! We'll be taking time out to share some memories. We'll Blog Back Time with possible ways to right past wrongs or about how times have changed. We'll share childhood memories, school/work memories, family and friend memories.
Today's topic is: Favorite Music Related Television Show
By that I mean, the one that featured the top acts of your time. What were your favorite artists that you saw on that show? Before I age myself and tell you mine, can you guess what the longest running 'music related television program' was? Make your guess, then I'll tell you what mine is and at the end I'll give the answer.

I grew up in the 1970's, graduated in 1979. My Friday nights were devoted to THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL. Saturday mornings, it was AMERICAN BANDSTAND and then after that SOUL TRAIN.

My favorite though had to be THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL. They definitely had a wide cross section of acts, both music and comedy. Where else could you see John Denver, Harry Chapin, Paul Williams, Ray Charles, The Bee Gees, Jose Feliciano, Joan Baez, Loretta Lynn, David Bowie, Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show, Steve Miller, George Carlin, Frankie Avalon, The Kinks, Randy Newman, Tom Jones, ELO, BOA, EWF, Herb Alpert, Barry Manilow, KISS, Peter Frampton, Fleetwood Mac, Wild Cherry, KC & The Sunshine Band, Judy Collins, The Bay City Rollers, The Captain & Tennille, Kenny Rodgers, Shaun Cassidy, Donna Summer, Rick Nelson, England Dan & John Ford Coley, Martin Mull, Eddie Money, Leo Sayer, REO Speedwagon, Dolly Parton, The Cars, Ted Nugent, The Village People, Alice Cooper, The Beach Boys, Journey, Suzi Quatro, LRB, The Commodores, Christopher Cross, Cher, Andy Kaufman, AC/DC, Rod Stewart, Melissa Manchester, Bread, Joni Mitchell, Starland Vocal Band, CCR, War, Steely Dan, Golden Earring, Heart, Elton John, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, ABBA. This isn't even a complete list (My favorites are in red, and some are quite embarrassing to admit). Here's a blast from the past from the show:

Got your guess on the longest running 'music related television program'?

Here's the stats:
1964-2006 TOP OF THE POPS (BBC).
1965-2006 SOUL TRAIN.
1952-1989 AMERICAN BANDSTAND.
1972-1981 THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL.
1980-1988 Solid Gold. Remember the Solid Gold Dancers?
1979 1987, 2003 Dance Fever. Remember Deney Terrio?
1981 - Present MTV.
1984 - 1988 Puttin’ on The Hits.
1986 - 1992 Dance Party USA.
1985 - Present VH1. (Remember VH1's Pop-up Videos? and VH1's Behind The Music?)

(**MTV and VH1 no longer play the relentless number of music videos they did back in the day. Sad, because some of them were so bad, they were entertaining just for the "bad" factor.)

Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

if I had only known - they watched so I didn't have to

We Watched So You Didn't Have To: Speidi, Patti Blagojevich and the 'I'm A Celebrity' Crew. Why didn't someone tell me this? I could have back the 45 minutes of my life that I wasted on this drivel. No, wait, drivel rates it too high.

This has to be one of the worst celebrity reality shows. Please, please, please bring back The Mole. Or better yet...put up a test pattern. Yeah! That's it, put up a test pattern. NBC might even get more viewers if they put up a test pattern.

It was one thing to have to watch faux celebrities eating faux insects (come on, if you watched it do you really believe that was a tarantula that Patti Blagojevich 'tried' to eat?), but it was quite another to see Spencer in faux concern over Patti Blagojevich's predicament. Then his wife Heidi went so far as to pray for Patti, her husband and family. (Note that I didn't put 'faux pray' because I choose not to offend anyone's sensibilities.)

There was even a faux alliance at the end with that drag queen, no wait, I'm sorry, Janice Dickenson, offering to end the faux grueling 'arms above your head competition' with Lou (he must really need the money, must be precious stone, formerly) Diamond Phillips. (Who thinks up these competitions anyway?)

There was faux flyin' all over the place. What is this "Frangela"? If Anastasia was home when this was on she would tell me to stop thinking they were a lesbian couple. Are they? I'm telling you people, when they come out, remember you heard it here first.

Patti was even faux swept away during a no doubt faux river crossing.

Did you watch "I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here"? Come on, you can tell Lola...

That's it, I'm gettin' the faux outta here.

Leave your comments peeps, let me know what you thought of the show. Real tarantula or faux? I say faux.

What competition would you like to see on the show?

Peterson Case - Special Treatment?

By now you've heard, Third Judge Assigned to Peterson Case. Are they going to run out of judges in Will County? Why is he so special that they get to keep changing judges? I thought that Judge Carla Alessio Policandriotes was on? Now she's off.

So Peterson has his own private cell "out of the jail’s general population due to the notoriety of his case and because he is a former police officer." I say put him in with the regular people. Why not? Could be interesting.

Judge "Kinney had granted Brodsky permission to meet with Peterson in unlimited face-to-face “contact visits,” and State's Attorney James Glasgow is crying fowl because Peterson's attorney, Brodsky was seen playing cards with him. Those have to be some pretty expensive card games, don't you think? How much does a defense attorney get per hour for a case of this magnitude? And he's playing cards?

Is Brodsky on the clock when he's playing cards? Just wondering.

What card games do you think they play? Crazy Eights? Old Maid? Bullshit? Let It Ride? Or perhaps Cat and Mouse?

Leave your comments peeps.

What card game do you think Brodsky and Peterson play?

Farmer's Markets Rock!

We went to the Farmer's Market in Frankfort today. Like every weekend, it's virtually impossible to get everyone moving to leave the house to get out. I don't know why it is, but whenever I say I'm going the the Farmer's Market, everyone says they want to go, but they just don't get moving. Depending on which city we go to, the hours vary, some are 8am to 2pm, some are 8am to 1pm and each is only Saturdays or only Sundays.

After I decided to step away from the computer and veg out on the front porch, it suddenly came to me that Frankfort's Farmer's Market was today. I'm surprised my brain was able to filter out that information, what with Drummer Boy, aka Metallica-head, doing a solo on electric guitar. I walked out onto the porch to hear it and immediately broke out into an amazing air guitar solo. After my air solo, I took a bow and sat for awhile with Anastasia and we yelled out "Freebird" at the top of our lungs several times, though I doubt that Drummer Boy, aka Metallica-head could hear us over the sound of his amp. Anastasia even held up her lighter and lit it for an encore, but he suddenly stopped playing. Was it us? (We bad!) Lol! We amuse ourselves, so that's what counts, right?

The market closes at 2pm, it was 12:45pm, we needed to haul tail to get there. We got there, had a little lunch from one of the vendors. Grass fed 1/2 pound burgers. Tasty, but I seriously doubt they were truly 1/2 pound before cooking. Lots of flowering and vegetable plants for sale; baked goods, canned/bottled goods - jams, jellies, butters, pickled items; coffee; nuts; kettle corn; antiques (more like faux antiques if you asked me), and frozen grain fed meats. Many vendors offer samples of the canned/bottled goods and baked goods.

We purchased 3 flowering plants (3/$10); 1 large basil plant ($3); a bag of kettle corn ($?); a bag of Breakfast Blend Coffee ($7); 1 jar Eggplant Antipasto ($2 on sale), 1 jar Olive/Garlic/Anchovie Tapanade ($6), 1 jar Pickled Brussels Sprouts ($6), 1 loaf of Artisan French Bread ($3).
I'm making lasagna tonight and when I saw that large basil plant, I just had to have it so I could add fresh basil to my sauce. Sadly the salsa guy wasn't there today, maybe next time. When we went last year he had something like 15 varieties of salsa. (The pineapple salsa rocks!) The Benz Coffee is from a new local business who roasts on the premises not far from us. Their website isn't up yet, when it is I'll pass it along.

(Anastasia put the flowers on the back patio, so they aren't in the photo. As soon as she gets them planted I'll put them up on Lola's Victory Garden.)
