Randomness

Anastasia is totally green with envy because I have become Irish's favorite. Can I help it that I was deemed Dr. Quinn medicine woman and have had to administer the medicines that have made her feel all better? It's like that fable or whatever, the lion with the thorn in it's foot, right? It is so funny because Irish lets me hold her on her back and rub her belly and she stretches all out and gets all comfy and pokes her head in my armpit and closes her eyes for a nap.

Maddux had his ringworm bath Thursday. We dropped him off at 12:30pm and were told to pick him up around closing because he has to 'air dry' because they said they can't use a blow dryer. Why not? Anastasia and I thought it would be totally hilarious if they blow dried him and his hair poofed out and he came out looking like a Pomeranian. I'm betting they won't blow dry him because of Irish's reputation...the diva who made awful noises and was swiping at the staff on her last visit. I'm sure they heard my name and thought of that and thought no way, let him air dry. I went to pick him up and found out he also has tapeworms. They administered 2 pills while he was there and said that should take care of it. I also had to get a prescription filled at the human pharmacy for another antibiotic because his upper respiratory infection is still kickin' his butt.

Why must teens continually say no and argue when you ask them to do their chores and raise your blood pressure and your stress level, then they go ahead and go do the chores anyway? Why can't they skip the arguing part and just do it? I would like an argue-ectomy for each of my teens.

I rearranged another kitchen cabinet, the Tuperwaware cabinet Wednesday. Several weeks ago I did the pantry cabinet. It looks like crap now. Total crap because certain teens cannot put stuff back where they got it from. I'm wondering how long before the Tuperware cabinet looks like crap. I'm thinking of tackling the spice cabinet, but with their track record...what's the point?

Breakfast out or how to ruin Anastasia's day

Let me first say how few and far between our dining out is. It's very rare. We used to frequent this particular establishment every Saturday morning when both of us were working full time. I miss that. I miss Greek toast. (Where can you buy Greek bread to make your own Greek toast? I've never seen it in any stores.)

Today we made an exception because, it was just us...and the restaurant is right next door to our vet and we had to drop off Maddux for his ringworm dip. By the way, the vet called, his ringworm is clearing up nicely. He does however need to go on a people antibiotic for his upper respiratory infection which seems to have gotten worse. Sadly, he still needs to be on quarantine because of the ringworm.
Back to breakfast...Anastasia has this 'thing' about her coffee. It has to have just the right amount of half and half and Equal. That means the waitress cannot top off her cup after she's had some. That means that the waitress must wait to refill her cup until it is completely empty. It's a running joke any time we go anywhere and she orders coffee and the waitresses refill at the table. Sometimes Anastasia rests her hand over her cup, other times she is totally oblivious to the waitress coming around. Yeah, that's what happened today. I almost did a slow motion "noooooooooooooooooooooooo" but didn't see it coming fast enough. After her coffee got topped off her mood suddenly changed. Darn those super efficient waitresses who start refilling your cup before they ask you. Those waitresses are stealth I tell you!

How do I solve that problem for myself? I ordered a Coke. Lol!

Thursday Thunks...

Berleen's turn to thunk your thinker
Welcome to the January 21st version of Thursday Thunks!
(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!

We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want. Write about it on your blog... simple as that. Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!
Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post. Please mention us in your post, and link back to the blog here.
Don't forget to go visit the other participants' blogs. Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks! Thats what all this is about afterall, isn't it? We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....

This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Berleen, the color white chocolate caramel and the number 0.

Did you miss me?- yes baby I did:)

1. Pants on the Ground....
jump up and down?

2. To compliment Kimber's question from last week.... have you ever fell down the stairs?
This is stupid, but I usually fall up the stairs. Seriously. I wind up with bruised shins.

3. Have you ever written to a company about their product? Ever called them?
Yes I've emailed. I emailed Frigidaire about a defective refrigerator and they refunded my money and came and picked it up.

4. Your dog/cat/snake/iguana/pet skunk (or just fill in your pet's species) goes to the vet. Ok, you take them to the vet... most pets wouldn't go on their own. The vet tells you that your species has cancer. Do you:
a. tell them to pull out the needle and put them to sleep on the spot
b. take them home and let them live out their life until the end
c. same as b. except you don't let them get to the suffering stage
d. go full steam ahead with cancer treatments

C.

5. What is your favorite comfort food?
Split pea soup. It's like a warm hug from my Mom. She always made split pea soup in the winter time.

6. If your child was put in jail for putting a gun in their spouses mouth and pulling the trigger (even though the gun wasn't loaded), strangling them and breaking their arm... would you post bail for them?

No bail, no way no how. They need to think about their actions and face the consequences. My sister was arrested in the late 80's when I was still living at home. I don't know all the details, it was mostly kept from me, but I do know 1 was for embezzlement, and 1 was for selling beer to underage kids and coupon fraud. My Dad bailed her out each time. I'm sure the reason why it wasn't discussed with me was because of my hard line and because before those arrests I discovered an embezzlement at my job (where she also worked) and where it was likely her but the owner didn't prosecute to save me from testifying against her.

7. If elephants had wings, how many feathers do you think they would have on each wing?
Why would they need wings, why not just put feathers on their ears?

8. Is there anything growing in your refrigerator right now?
Not likely, we have a teenage son. Odds are pretty good nothing ever gets a chance to grow.

9. What did you do with your Thursdays while we were on a break?
There was a break?

10. Would you donate to the Kimber Ark Building Fund and donate wood? She is about to float away after all...
I would...if I could?

11. If I were to send you a letter and I wanted to put a little heart sticker on the back of the envelope, what color sticker would you like it to be?
Fuschia thanks.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

I realize I just posted about the The Blind Side and got all warm and fuzzy about how someone in this day and age can be so trusting and have it be a life changer (in a positive way) for another person. On Monday night's news was the other side of the coin. Online Casonova Bilks Woman of Thousands - CBS2 Chicago. Granted, it's a bit different. In The Blind Side a woman and her family take in an unknown into their home. In this news story a woman corresponded with a Commander Smith via the internet via Match.com and was conned into wiring thousands of dollars several times. Commander Smith had various reasons, claiming his daughter in London wanted to travel and he couldn't access his funds being out in Afganistan, and then another time needed money to start up a business. In total the woman wired $18,000. How does someone become that trusting of someone they never met? Ok, I realize I should be one to talk, considering I met my wonderful Anastasia via an online dating site. I'm just saying...how do you know when to take a chance? Intuition?

Our daughter had her bowling match Monday. I had to get up at the crack of dawn and drive her to her home school to catch the bus that was leaving at 6:45am. Yes! 6:45am! I came home and had coffee after and I still fell asleep watching television this morning. Coffee can't even keep me awake. WTH?

I'm so over this Leno/Conan thing. Can they make a deal already and be done with it? Who cares about the faux protests? People are dying in Haiti! Who the frick cares who hosts The Tonight Show or whatever the hell they want to call what comes on after the news on NBC?

Please tell me there is going to be something on tv on Friday other than the Haiti telethon. Please! I realize they need to raise money, but gosh darn it I can't stand George Clooney and I really cannot enjoy a show that is going to be ass-kissing Clooney all night. Yes, he's a do-gooder and all, but I still can't stand him no matter how much good he does.

I think I've got the winter blues. (And I may be a little bit bitter too. Do ya think?) I just feel all down in the dumps. Maybe it hasn't helped that my back has been bothering me more than usual and I've had to resort to those nasty pain pills that give me weird dreams. Maybe it's coming off the Bulls game on Friday. You know, the anticipation, all looking forward to it, then it's really fun and then the let down that there is nothing to look forward to for awhile. That or maybe I'm really bumming because our son ate the last of the orange sherbet...in front of me...and wouldn't share. Yes I asked! I suppose there is the Superbowl to look forward to. When is it again?

Weekend Movie - The Blind Side

I finally got to see The Blind Side this weekend with our daughter. She had been begging to go to the movies for weeks and that was one movie that always came up on her must see list.

I have to say that I really enjoyed the movie. Last night Sandra Bullock won a Golden Globe for her role in the movie and it really was deserved. If you haven't seen the movie yet, it's a real 'feel good' movie and to know that it's based on a true story is very uplifting.

For anyone to take in a child off the streets is unusual. But for a well to do Caucasian woman to take in an young African American child she finds walking down a rainy street one night, bring him into her family and treat him as if he were always a member of her family is amazing.

It's uplifting and inspirational and I definitely recommend it.
