Blackberry girl...

Jen @ Redhead Ranting suggested to me that my forays into the lesbian dating world would make great blog fodder. While I tend to agree, I don't know that I would even feel comfortable sharing even the most G rated details. I wouldn't want my blog to interfere with my dating life, nor would I want it to jeopardize any possible relationships. That being said, I feel perfectly comfortable to share my solo excursions to the gay clubs. If you are a blog pally you're a friend, and you're probably already getting the details, (whether you're really interested or not). If you are a blog pally and you want an update, just email me. I'm not comfortable broadcasting on my blog, but confiding in a friend I believe is ok.

That being said, I thought I would share this weeks and last weeks experiences at the gay club. Always great fodder for the blog and awesome people watching.

First...last weekend I went to the club on Saturday. There was a group event for a group that I belong to, but I failed to contact them to get a cell phone number to meet up with the group. It was a last minute decision to hit the club, so I was pretty much on my own. The club wasn't very crowded. It just seemed like it was couples, transgendered people and senior night. The couples were bumping and grinding. The transgendered all had bad wigs and the worst fashion sense. Most of the seniors were coupled off and dancing old fashioned dances. All the bartenders were falling out of their apparently regulation low cut tank tops. I got a flirty smile from a transgendered person (MTF, my guess) and a senior who was old enough to be my grandmother.

This weekend I went and several women talked to me. Sure, they mostly wanted me to watch their stuff while they played pool or danced, but hey, that's something, right? The bartender recognized me from last week and fake flirted with me saying she was happy to see me in her section again. No doubt my tips last week were more than acceptable? Then this blonde woman, who looked like a cross between Melissa Etheridge and Anne Ramsay introduced herself and started chatting with me. Chatting, in between texting on her Blackberry. It was her 35th birthday. When she sat next to me, she practically sat on my lap, and constantly touched me as she conversed. She was texting with her roommate's ex-girlfriend who she is crushing on. She was very friendly, but clearly not interested in anything but friendship. She was very friendly and it was nice for once to have conversation while I sipped my Coke. She told me if I go to the club next week solo for their St. Patrick's Day Party, she will make it her mission to find me a woman. So, you can't beat that, can you? Well, you can, I guess, if I had met someone interested in me...but still, I'd say that's pretty awesome! We talked nearly the entire time I was there and she gave me some tips on dating sites and encouraged me to "work it". (Goodness knows in this situation we all need some support and encouragement!) The club was 3 times as crowded as last week. Perhaps because the word is getting out that this club recently re-opened. The same transgendered people where there, and one other. I'm guessing an MTF who had Nurse Diesel boobage, Tootsie eyeglasses and 70's big hair. She was bar dancing. (Dancing while standing against the bar.) It was a real hoot to watch, and hard not to be fixated on that particular display. Other than that, the crowd was quite varied, though, it was real difficult to determine who, was with who. Perhaps Blackberry girl can help me with that next week?

Hey! Ask Me A Question! Please?

Got a question for me?

Please post it in the comments.

As I get questions, I'll begin adding my answers below.

Keep the questions coming!
Still taking questions on Friday!

cardiogirl asks: Are you as social in real life as you are on the web? I know you've met up a time or two with some fellow Chicago-ans (?) including Lin, but I wonder if you are immediately comfortable chit chattin' with strangers in real life. In 4 words...hell to the no. I used to be a painfully shy child. I've probably improved a 100 fold. In a lot of ways the improvement started when I 'came out' and started dating. You can't get a date being a wallflower. Now that I'm dating again...yes, let this be my official announcement...Anastasia and I have broken up. She did the breaking up, no more details are necessary here. Yes, I've been in pain, yes I've been hurt, but my reaction in this circumstance is to get back on the horse after I've fallen. I've struggled for some time about if or how to mention it on my blog. In any case, this means I need to 'get my extrovert on'. I'm trying to get back into that groove. To that end, I am getting involved in starting a suburban lesbian social group. I'm also participating in other existing lesbian social groups and have my profile out on various sites. So in answer to your question, I'm going to be getting very comfortable talking to strangers in real life. Lol!

Jen asks: I just wondered if you had any ideas for dinner? My kids are getting really sick of the same old thing. got any new recipes that fast and easy? Chicken Enchiladas? Chicken Curry? Chicken, beef or pork fried rice?
Fried Rice
leftover chicken, beef, pork or shrimp (or you can use browned ground beef or canned chicken)
eggs
bean sprouts
frozen peas and carrots
soy sauce
sesame oil
cooked rice

Scramble the eggs and break into small pieces, set aside. Put a couple of drops of sesame oil in a wok or large frying pan. Saute the meat in the oil and heat the meat through. Defrost peas and carrots. Add egg, peas and carrots, bean sprouts and rice to the pan. Toss until combined. Add soy sauce to taste
(don't add too much at a time) . Continue to toss until everything is coated with soy sauce and it is heated through. The sesame oil is what makes this resemble Chinese take-out Fried Rice.

Meg asks: I remember reading somewhere that you are in the Chicago area. Have you been to Geja's restaurant in Chicago? That is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. I used to live in Chicago, now I live in the burbs. No, I haven't been to Geja. I've been to Fondue Stube, which is similar, but I heard Geja is better. I love fondue!

The Diva on a Diet asks: My questions: How long have you been blogging? And how did you get all those followers??p.s. - I may have to steal this idea sometime, its great. :) I have been blogging since October 16, 2008. I have gotten many of my followers from Entrecard as well as by going through other blogger's blog rolls and commenting on those bloggers post. I also post my posts on reddit when the content is something that may be of interest to more people. I also have my blog on a number of directories, and those can be found near the bottom of my page. Feel free to steal my idea and link back to me! Thanks for participating!

LJ Ducharme asks: A question?? Any question?? What has been your least favourite place to visit and why? Yes, any question! Probably northern Michigan. A previous ex dragged me and my kids to visit her family. Driving endlessly with cornfields on either side of the road. If she didn't know the way, I would have gotten totally lost. (No GPS back then.) It was all the same. The family wasn't hospitable, her Baptist church was worse and there wasn't a darn thing to do out there. B-o-r-i-n-g! Thanks for participating! Stop by again!

JD at I Do Things asks: How did you come up with the name/idea "Lola's Diner"? Has your blog evolved from what you originally planned? My thoughts were always of the old fashioned diner. To evoke that sense of familiarity. The lunch counter, a meeting place. An exchange of ideas. Commenting on the issues of the day, the things that concern all of us. Politics, current events, parenting (but not so much, because I don't consider this a "Mommy blog"), and GLBT issues. I'm not sure it has evolved as I had originally planned. Seeing so many blogs with lots of comments, I still feel like I haven't arrived. While I have a decent number of followers, many are lurkers and that disappoints me a bit. Great question!
