The Homecoming Dance was this Saturday. Our son attended with his bff who I not very affectionately call Eddie Haskell. Eddie was bragging at school all week how he was renting a limo. Ah, yeah, no, that didn't happen.
Our daughter didn't attend because her bff had been sick all week and wasn't attending. She really didn't want to hang out with her brother and Eddie. I can completely understand that, so I hung out with her and she helped me make the Chicken Enchiladas we had for dinner.
Da Bears WIN! It was an awesome game! We had our own little Bears party and watched the game, just the 4 of us. I made Taco Dip last night and Anastasia made Veggie Dip and Pinwheels. Our son made brownies last night. Too bad when we woke up 1/2 the plate of Pinwheels was mysteriously missing and the entire pan of brownies, except for 2, and some crumbs, was missing. It seems 'someone' had them for breakfast. Oh well, at least it was only 1/2 the plate of Pinwheels. Lol!
My sister called me Saturday. The mystery is solved. Her husband has a hernia, ulcers and for some reason his esophagus was constricted to the thickness of a pin, and apparently all of the above was causing the heart palpitations/chest pain. And yes, I was the 'good sister' when she called me on Friday, crying before he had his scope done and I took time out of my day to listen to her cry and gave her a pep talk. It's more than she's ever done for me. (She specifically told me not to call when Anastasia was hospitalized, when I needed her to do that for me.) But yes, I am always the 'good sister', and she is always not. Some things will never change, why do we always expect/hope that they will?

There are just some people who take and take--never giving in a relationship. So, you have choices I guess--either listen or tune her out like she does you. Who knows what's best, you have to decide for yourself what you want to deal with. Like Spongebob says: Good luck with that. :)
Your son looks so handsome! I'm glad he went. It's hard to go to Homecoming as a freshman.
How nice your son looks. I won't ell about the Brownies,:-)
Oh I spoke too soon about my daughter and Homecoming...Yesterday she informed me she needed a dress for....HOMECOMING!!! I be sure to post the photos, lol. hubby and I are thinking about Chaperoning , Not well excepted by daughter, lol.
Thanks for visiting and the comments.
I feel your pain - I am the good sister, too. I came to realize that my sister was just an attention whore who when things were wrong, wanted everyone's focus on her and that she could not stand it when the focus was on someone else. NO matter how bad the other person's situation was! Good for you for being the better person!
I wish I could share my sister with you; she is the best. But, oh my oh my--what a sweetie your son is!
Your son looks great! :)
They grow up so fast, don't they? I have two teenage girls and I can't believe how fast time is going...
I think we will have a semi-formal opportunity coming up early next year - sigh, I have very little idea of what that is going to entail but I do know there will be a LOT of shopping involved...
Oh, I understand the good sister bit. My sister only calls when she wants to complain about something, never when I'm sick or the dogs are sick or it's my birthday, but I'm expected to drop everything when she wants something from me (for example, she wants me to drive four hours and watch her kid while she goes to the Bahamas in December but a few months ago she was willing to throw me in jail over a storage room key). Maybe one day we can send all the bad sisters to a deserted island for a few months and let them be sisterly to each other while they try to survive off of coconuts and bugs. Maybe they'd return a lot more considerate.
Lola, I now would like the Chicken Enchilada recipe that name just sounds so good......
Don't know why I missed the sister thing(must have been before my coffee, lol). Glad you are the good one. I never had sisters only Brothers. But if I did I would want her to be a good listener like you:-)
Kudos to you for being the good sister...I have to suck it up & be the good daughter all the time, it's difficult but in the end, we'll be glad we did!
I totally understand your daughter not wanting to hang out with her brother, I was that way too! He isn't so bad now, 20 yrs later....oh and he lives 2000 miles away!
Happy VGNO a little late! Stop by my blog to see my latest Layout of the Week and where my blog is being honored as Blog of the Week!

Hi I am visiting from Entrecard. My sister went too. I'm glad that it worked out good for everyone. Chicken enchiladas would have been way better for me than to go out :)
@ Lin - I know, I'm just tired of the whole sister thing. You wouldn't believe how many photos it took to get that 1 good one. He kept making goofy faces.
@ Auntie E - Our son ate the brownies. He always volunteers to make them and then sneaks and eats them all while we sleep.
@ StaceyC4 - But I'm tired of being the better person. Lol!
@ Patricia - Oh he 'looks' like a sweetie. Lol!
@ Lidian - Thank you. I got that suit at the local thrift store on ladies day. The suit ended up being $2.99. It's the best money I ever spent. It's been a Halloween costume, graduation outfit and now Homecoming outfit. The shirt was a garage sale find. The most expensive part of the outfit was the tie!
@ Staci - The deserted island sounds good. Then maybe we can have Dr. Phil or someone teach them empathy. Lol!
@ Auntie E - Watch for the Chicken Enchilada recipe Tuesday.
@ Julie Chats - Congrats on being honored as blog of the week!
@ Jordasche Bledsoe - It's still nice to go out sometimes. We rarely get to.
