Last week when I met up with bloggers Cardiogirl and Lin from Duck and Wheel With String I got to tour the back 40, visit the pond and meet Hobbes! Aren't you all jealous?

Food Police are losing it

They are now going after McDonald's claiming that Happy Meal toys. 'Food Police' Go After Happy Meals - Chicago Tribune.
"Michael Jacobson, executive director of CSPI, says it’s the parents responsibility too, but he equates the toy giveaways to a door-to-door salesman coming to a family’s house every day and asking to privately speak with the children.

“At some point parents get worn down,” Jacobson says. “They don’t always want to be saying no to their children. We feel like an awful lot of parents would be relieved if this one pressure was removed from them.”"
Uh-huh. What about the toys in cereals when I was a kid? Where were the 'food police' then? And what about Cracker Jacks? Weren't the toys in cereal boxes and prizes in Cracker Jack boxes blatant manipulation of us kids back in the 60's and 70's?

Do you buy Happy Meals for the toys to placate your kids? I never did. I bought Happy Meals because it was fairly cheap fast food. And I didn't buy it very often. If parents are buying their kids Happy Meals because their kids are pestering them for them, then the parents have more issues than McDonalds meals having toys in them.

Hey! Ask Me A Question! Please?

My August 24th post was so much fun, I thought I'd make this a semi-regular installment. And now it's time.

Random Tuesday Thoughts

Hallelujah! Summer school started yesterday! Woo hoo! Now I only get "I'm bored, there's nothing to do/can we do this (that costs $$$)/can we do that (that costs $$)?" from 1 kid, instead of 2.

Irish and Maddux have an automatic feeder filled to the top with cat food, so why are they both continually trying to attack and open the brand new bag of cat food that I bought today? How do they know it's a bag of cat food? It's not open. How do they know? Can they read "IAMS" on the bag? Do they recognize the bright orange bag? Do they see the picture of the cat on the bag?

I threw out my back bad but saved a kitty - I was at my girlfriend's last night. Kids were playing with bubbles in full view of the resident cat. It was driving him freakin' crazy! He HAD to have him some of those bubbles and every time the patio door opened, he was there. It opened one time too many and he made a break for it. One of the kids grabbed him by the tail, I swooped in, grabbed a hunk of tail and grabbed for the cat's head and collar, picked him up and shut the door. Something in my back didn't like that smooth move. I've always had indoor cats, it's reflex...cat near a door open to the outside, I gotta grab it! Then to top it off, moments later my son gave me a hug around my waist (why he forgot touching anywhere near that area's not allowed, I have no idea, but he did a full strength squeeze hug). I'm willing to bet that Lin heard my scream all the way up in Weirdville.

2010 Blogger Meetup

If you recall I met up with bloggers from Look It's Megryansmom, A Malasian Abroad, Communication Exchange, Duck And Wheel With String. You can check out that meet up here, Chicago Area Blogger Meet Up.

Last Thursday I met up with bloggers from Cardiogirl and Duck And Wheel With String. We had an absolute blast! We dished about blogs, talked about writers block and shared our experiences with blogging. Lin, you have to make sure you do that post with a link about the site that gives points for photos of yards and gives points for certain things. That sounds hilarious!

And yes, in case you were wondering, Cardiogirl sported a pair of Chucks.

And Cardiogirl, by the time this posts, you will be back home. I hope you had a fun time exploring Chi-town and hope you come back and visit us soon.

Now for the photos, because a blogger meet up is nothing without photographic proof:
And because Lin insisted on showing her best side on the second shot, Cardiogirl and I had to join in. Doesn't it look like all we need is a microphone and we can be a Motown girl group?
Did I say we had a blast?
