Sunday Stealing-Bankerchick

Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. (Past hosts include: Our first - Judd Corizan, Mr. L, Kwizgiver and Bud) Cheers to all of us thieves!

Stolen from Bankerchick

1. Tell us about any lawn or garden plans you have for this month,
My plan is to get something edible out of my garden. We started late. I was told “we” were going to lower the base of our raised garden and put in more soil so the plants have more room to root. I even bought an excessive amount of soil to insure there was enough, but apparently “we” decided not to do that and not tell me until after I discovered it myself when I tried to put tomato cages and stakes in. We planted tomato, green pepper and zucchini plants. We have gotten ZERO anything from the garden. The zucchini flowers keep falling off, the tomatoes are the size of ping pong balls (and those are the big ones), and the green pepper is the size of a marble. Total waste of money on plants. The only plants that flourished were the Rosemary, lavender, and petunias.

2. "Many things grow in the garden that were never sown there."~Thomas Fuller. What does this quote mean to you?
Pass.

3. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think about God?
Prayers. Thoughts and prayers. My ex friend (fiancée of my sister in law ) younger brother passed away early Friday morning. Their mom found him when she went to wake him because he overslept. He was only 25. He had just gotten his life together, quit drinking, got himself a good job. The coroner told them it could have been a brain aneurysm. Their mom told the coroner he had been having terrible headaches, but refused to go to a doctor, that’s what led the coroner to brain aneurysm as cause of death.

4.
If we were chatting in person, how would I know if you were nervous.
I wouldn’t say much.

5. Do you like the color yellow? Would I find any in your home or wardrobe?
I have a Sponge Bob yellow t-shirt I wear as a night shirt.

6. Daffodils, tulips, roses, sunflowers, day lily, black-eyed Susan...which yellow bloom on this list is your favorite?
Iris. Not on the list, but my favorite.

7. Flip flops or bare feet
Bare feet. But I always wear slippers around the house, and shoes when I leave the house.

8. Fish out of water, big fish in a small pond, living in a fishbowl, packed in like sardines, this is a fine kettle of fish, plenty of fish in the sea, fish or cut bait...which fishy phrase most recently applies to some area of your life?
Probably a fine kettle of fish. There is just so much stress I am under now.

9. Have you ever been fishing? Did you catch a fish? If so did you keep it or throw it back? If you haven't been fishing is that something you'd like to try?
I went fishing once. I caught 2 small fish, each the size of my hand.

10. What's something you're always fishing for in your purse, wallet, desk, or kitchen junk drawer?
Wallet. I’m always searching for my register coupons (the ones that spit out of the printer as the cashier scans your groceries). I fold them and put them in my wallet, but lose them in the dollar bills.

11. Your favorite fish tale or movie?
Finding Nemo.

12. Are you sunrise, daylight, twilight or night? Explain why you chose your answer.
I don’t know if I’m answering correctly...night. I have terrible insomnia, so I am regularly up until 2am. Sometimes much later. Even when I need to get up before 10am, I still can’t get to sleep. Chalk it up to back and shoulder pain.

13. What's the oldest piece of clothing you own and still wear?
Probably that Sponge Bob t-shirt.

14. What's been the best and worst part of your summer so far?
Was summer that 2-3 weeks we had upper 90° temperatures? I haven’t had my daughter home for a visit for 177 days. We do go visit her at the group home she lives in, but the visit must be outside. We can’t even go inside to use the bathroom. I can tell it’s getting to my daughter. I can’t think of any “best part”. It’s been a 💩 fest. My new, to me, Buick which was in pristine condition, got keyed. There is not one panel or body section that did not get keyed. A con-woman accused me of slamming my door into her crappy, old, rusted minivan. My door never touched that pos van because I am SUPER careful to not scratch or ding my car. She wanted me to give her cash. She didn’t get any cash so she searched the parking lot for my car, which I had moved far away, and keyed it. I parked by cameras, I called the police, filed a report. Even if she were found, she wouldn’t have $$$ to pay for the damage she did. I should have left and shopped elsewhere.

15. Are you a Jimmy Buffet fan? If so, what's your favorite JB tune.
I'm not a big Jimmy Buffet fan, but who doesn’t love “Margaritaville”? I even have a Margaritaville t-shirt which I wore Saturday. Got it from Sam’s Club.

Day 175 of Sheltering In

Friday. I called in sick for PT. My back is still really  bad. My ex-friend’s younger brother passed away during the night. (My younger sister in law’s fiancée.) He hadn’t gotten up when he was expected to, their mom went to wake him and found him. The coroner suspects a brain aneurysm because he had been complaining of headaches. They will do an autopsy to find out for certain what the cause of death was.

We made an unplanned trip out to the middle of nowhere to their trailer. We ordered pizza and talked and laughed for hours. Tomorrow is laundry day at my father in law’s. We’re supposed to have pizza...again. At least the pizza will be good pizza tomorrow. Tonight’s pizza was a waste of carbs, but since they are out in the middle of nowhere it was the only option.

I’ve started drinking Diet Coke. I haven’t been able to find Fizz & Co. Cola Sparkling Water at Mariano’s. It has been months. I think it’s been discontinued. 💔 I’ve been wanting it to mix with Bubly Cherry Sparkling Water to make cherry cola sparkling water. I know...weirdo! So I bought Diet Coke Mini Cans and I’ve been making Cherry Diet Cola. The Cherry kind of kills the aftertaste. I have 1 mini can a day, or none. I decided to try the mini cans because I get headaches when I drink a can or bottle. It’s actually pretty good and it takes care of my craving for cola and cherry cola. Like I’m a good judge of that, only having a mini can of Pepsi when my blood sugar is too low. I know...weirdo!

Day 173, 174 of Sheltering In

Wednesday, Thursday. My back is still out. I went to PT anyway. M let me have heat before and ice after on my back in addition to both shoulders. I also asked to modify what I usually do to avoid the overhead and side band exercises. I did everything else, and even did the stairs. I still hurt. I’m icing now as I type this.

I have to run over to the AT&T store to get my daughter a new charger cord. Her fairly new Belkin cord won’t charge her iPhone anymore. Total BS. I just bought the cord for her about a month ago. The box said Apple Certified and it cost about the same as an actual Apple cord. Ok, so now I know to go to the AT&T store to buy cords. When I went to get my battery replaced about a week ago I had to buy myself a new cord. They gave me a discount, so I’m going to ask for that discount again. The damn software updates won’t allow the use of “unauthorized accessories”. My daughter is freaking out because she uses her phone as an alarm. (Doesn’t everyone?) I Googled. I found a probable solution. If you plug your charger cord into your phone and into an outlet, then turn your iphone off, supposedly it will charge because the iOS software which is coded in a such a way that it won’t allow  “unauthorized accessories”, is not running when the iPhone is off, so the cord will charge the iPhone...allegedly. I told my daughter to try it. I would try it but I gave my nearly new cord to my wife thinking it was only iPhone 7 and up that started having the issue last week. Either my wife’s iPhone 6 hasn’t updated yet, or because it’s an old iPhone 6 maybe it can’t get the latest update. My daughter’s iPhone 6 is several years newer. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Dunno. When I buy a new iPhone I never buy the newest model. I buy the model that has the best price. All I know is if I have to cough up another $29.99+ tax for my wife’s iPhone I won’t be happy. My daughter is paying for the new cord. My son has an iPhone 5, and if I remember correctly his phone can only update to iOS 10. The latest iOS is 13.7.

Like I wanted another errand for Friday. 🤦🏻 I do need to go back to the AT&T store to have them show me how to use the hotspot that we all have in our iPhones since I upgraded to unlimited data. It would have been stupid not to upgrade since we had a small data limit and we’ve been going over during the pandemic. We hadn’t gotten charged overages because AT&T had been waiving them due to the pandemic. Since I didn’t know how long they are doing that, it’s cheaper to upgrade to unlimited. So we upgraded to unlimited, all got hotspots, HBO MAX included free, and got the house internet upgraded to unlimited data with no price increase. So now we have crappy unlimited internet. 🤷🏻‍♀️Since my daughter only has 1 iPhone payment left, my phone bill will be about the same after that last payment.

Day 172 of Sheltering In

Tuesday. Thankfully I got a call for my doctor appointment before I left the house. I had left a message Friday asking if it was a televisit or in person visit. It was a televisit. Yay! It’s a less than 5 minute appointment, so since they started doing televisits I want to continue doing them. I really wasn’t in the mood to drive to J town. I slept badly. Awoke at 3:10am, 6:40am, 8something am, 9 something am, 10:20am. The rain really did a number on all my aches and pains. My back, L and R shoulder are really hurting, and the headache doesn’t help.

My wife had her babysitting a friend’s 5 year old daughter today canceled because baby daddy’s job got canceled due to the weather. Probably the same tomorrow, as the rain forecast shows tomorrow as the same. Shame on me! I was really looking forward to hearing about her babysitting a 5 year old terror!

After my appointment my son and I went to 2 grocery stores...and bought 1 item at each. 🤣 Not kidding! I needed to get dinner, so I bought a pot roast at one and dessert at the other. My son wanted to go to the 2nd store, so we went. I just did not feel like shopping shopping, ya know? My wife cooked it in the Instant Pot with potatoes and carrots. The pot roast was so tender. Since I didn’t really eat today I had some potato with my pot roast and carrots. I rarely eat potatoes anymore because of the carbs, but I needed them today. I do not like the super low blood sugar feeling.

Day 171 of Sheltering In

Monday, Labor Day. The BBQ at my daughter’s group home was kind of ridiculous. My daughter prepped everything, baked the sausages and chicken in the oven, then my wife finished them on the grill. NONE of the other clients helped. They didn’t even get cups, plates and plasticware, condiments. My daughter had to keep running in and out for everything. The food was delicious. All her housemates enjoyed the food. They didn’t even help clean up. My daughter had to do that too!

My wife was in charge of the grill. My son helped me do a temporary fix for their patio umbrella. Duck tape, zip ties, pliers to reform the ends of the broken frame, and a pocket knife to cut tiny holes for the zip ties to hold the fabric to the frame. By the time the burgers were done, my son was lifting the umbrella into place and into the base. All the ladies really liked that the umbrella was up and shading the table nicely. When we were all done eating and all the ladies disappeared, my wife, son, and I helped my daughter clean up and I had my son remove the umbrella and place it upside down on the patio with the base placed on it to prevent the wind from taking it away. If staff gave a damn the umbrella would have been stored away before the storms and it wouldn’t have been damaged. But the staff don’t care. Hopefully the ladies will get a little more use out of it.

Day 170 of Sheltering In

Sunday. Did my stay at home Sunday thang. I went to bed late, got up late so I missed most of the Sunday QVC cooking segment. After I finished watching Cobra Kai with my son. We both enjoyed it. Wouldn’t be surprised is he wants to watch it again this week. Then Beetle Juice, then Back to the Future AGAIN! It’s ok, I liked them, but a bit more of a break between watchings might be nice.

Monday we are going to my daughter’s group home to grill out since staff can’t be bothered to use the grill. I sent my daughter the recipes for Pea Salad and Dorito Salad so she can get the Pea Salad done and part of the Dorito Salad. Can’t assemble that one ahead of time because of the lettuce and Doritos. My wife is doing the grilling. (I hope.) I’ll be prepping veggies for veggie skewers if I’m allowed to use a knife. I don’t want to run afoul of the rules. I’d have done that at home, but my daughter’s team lead bought the groceries so I don’t have them here.

I have an appointment at the Pain Clinic Tuesday. I was hoping for a Zoom appointment, but I got a text confirmation and it didn’t mention Zoom, so I guess I have to drive my butt over there. Not looking forward to that, especially since it’s a 3 minute long appointment.

Dr:  So, how is your pain being managed?
Me:  PCP. No problems.
Dr.  So, have the skin infections cleared up?
Me:  No. I still get them. It’s like whack-a-mole. One heals and another pops up somewhere else. But my a1c is down, so that’s good.
Dr.  See you in 3 months.

Waste of a trip, but I can’t cancel.

Wednesday my son has his 3 month shrink appointment. I texted ahead on Thursday night. It will be a phone appointment. Thank goodness! It’s over an hour and a half drive in rush hour traffic. The ride home isn’t too bad. I just hate the drive there on 83. But this visit is by phone so that’s good.

Thursday, Friday is PT. I really hope I don’t get the new physical therapist again. I am so going to be hurting on Friday. After Wednesday’s appointment I had to do 3 rounds of ice packs. Saturday we are expected back at my father in law’s. I don’t think I will be up to it, but we’ll see.

Sunday Stealing-Personal Development

Stolen from Personal Development Magazine

Hi! Our host is Bev Sykes of the blog "Funny the World". . Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves!

 1. A person I like and why I like them...
Our pharmacist. Damn am I old! The reason is, she takes the time to talk to us.  And she’s so cheerful! She remembers each member of my family and asks about them. Damn! That totally sounds like I’m old.

2. A famous person I’ve been compared to...

I don’t think I’ve ever been compared to a famous person.

3. Best thing that happened to me this week..

I made it to this point...you reading my blog. Don’t I sound exciting?

4. Weird things I do when I’m alone...

Self talk. Mostly silent. Singing in the car. I sing in the car all the time. If my son is with and he won’t join in, I sing louder!

5. How I’d spend $10,000.

Have the furnace and central air replaced. Set up the laundry area on the first floor. Hire a plumber to run  the plumbing, etc. New Whirlpool front load washer and gas dryer.

6. My last night out in detail....

My wife and I went out to dinner at the sushi buffet place just before the coronavirus shelter in place order in March. That’s the last time we’ll go there. Buffets freak me out now...coronavirus. Then we picked up my kids at Anastasia’s house and went home.

7. Something that makes me sad when I think about it....

That there will be no “going back to normal”. That “normal” will never again exist.

8. Something I’m currently worrying about...

Coronavirus.

9. Something I do without realizing...

If I’m doing something without realizing, then how would I know what that something was?

10. A drunken story...

It’s been a long time. In WI I was an accountant and office manager. The owner often took all the employees to one of his client’s bars. One time we went to the bar at the corner near the office. The owner was buying as he always did. He was a big drinker so it wasn’t hard for us employees to get drunk. One employee who sat next to me was talking to me and punctuating every few sentences by punching me in the shoulder. She punched me, I punched her. As time went on her punches grew harder, and I matched them. It got to looking like a fight. The boss looked over, said to knock it off, and she finally stopped. I moved away from her and switched to pop and left not long after with a sore arm.

11. Something I regret...
I regret taking my most recent job. In a job interview, when the interviewer repeatedly mentions how everyone working there is “like family” RUN! LEAVE! DON’T EVEN LOOK BACK. What a colossal error in judgement! They were all haters, except for one who became my boss after several years. The others screamed at me, calling me disgusting, they tried to get me fired for making errors in my job. I didn’t make the errors and spent hours digging through financial records to prove it. It was a very stressful situation to be in. I stayed because I needed the job. I stayed after getting a new boss because I loved the work I did and she genuinely appreciated it. My new boss stood up for me and reminded the owners how I definitely had enough evidence to file complaints with state and federal agencies and to sue them for allowing the harassment, and in some cases, encouraging it. I got into a bad car accident 4 years ago and went on medical leave and never returned. I miss the actual work, but it’s questionable whether I would be able to do that kind of work because I have headaches and difficulty remembering things, and it’s gotten worse over the last year. I have a benign brain tumor which I had radiation treatment for when it was first diagnosed. I have a 1 year checkup in December. I’m praying it has not grown in size and remains benign.

12. 5 things within touching distance...

DirecTV remote, Roku remote, eyeglasses, eyeglass case, phone charger pack.

13. Something I’ve lied about...

I’d say a lie by omission. Not mentioning drive thru breakfast or lunch, Starbucks trips.

 14. Lyrics that apply to my current mood...
As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost
Wake me up when September ends
Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
15. My longest relationship...I really don’t recall. I think my relationship with Anastasia has surpassed my first marriage, so I will say Anastasia. She continues to be in contact with my kids (not like their dad). Whenever she is over by my house, or I am by hers, for pickups and drop offs, she makes a point of belittling me in front of my wife and kids. I’m tired of it, but I suffer in silence so my kids can have a relationship with her. My wife hates it. My kids notice it at times. Anastasia keeps asking about poker night, either with or without my father in law. They met at our wedding and both talk about getting together to play poker. It is NOT happening! My wife is in complete agreement. I refuse to sit through an entire afternoon or evening being treated like that. I don’t know if she does it because her wife is also present and she wants to prove something, or if she’s jealous of my life. I don’t have any friends outside of Facebook and I will not tolerate being treated like that for a friendship. So I avoid when she comes to pick up, or just don’t participate in the conversation. When I pick up I don’t go in, I park in front of their door and have the kids come to my car. I’m a parent, I make sacrifices for my kids. This is just one of the ugly ones I tolerate so my kids can have a relationship with her, since their dad finds it inconvenient to have a relationship with them. I treat it like I used to treat my ex husband during visitation drop offs and pick ups...it’s a necessary evil.
