Sunday Stealing-Questions for readers

Hi! Your host is Bev Sykes of the blog Funny the World Welcome to Sunday
Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here
we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere.
Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting
and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves.

Pick a book you have read and answer the following questions:

1.  Why did you pick the book? I didn’t pick the book. An in-law
wrote a memoir and wanted me to read and review the book. I
like reading memoirs, but I would never have picked this one.

3.  What do you know about the author? What did you want to
know? The author is Christian, but their God is a different God.
?Yeah?? I think I will leave it at that. Suffice to say, I can point
out discrepancies that make the memoir not a memoir...That
make the book a work of fiction.

4.  What’s the most memorable scene? I don’t have one.

5.  How did the book make you feel? Angry! Frustrated!

6.  How do you feel about the way the story was told? Story is an
appropriate choice of word. It’s basically a work of fiction with some
truth. I feel that excluding all step siblings and step father from the
book is wrong. Don’t even give me any nonsense about having to
exclude them to keep the book a certain length. Mischaracterizing
events by not accurately depicting them. I feel that it was very
disrespectful to exclude the family one grows up with.

7.  Which parts of the book stood out to you? The parts that did
not accurately depict events. I was shocked.

8.  Which specific parts of the protagonist can you relate to? I read
a memoir, so no protagonist.

9.  Which character did you relate to the most? Memoir...no
characters.

10. Share a line or passage from the book. Pass.

11. What did you think about the ending? Having read it from
the beginning, and knowing the author personally, I fully expected
the ending.

12. Is the story plot driven or character driven? I read a memoir. It’s
more plot driven. A series of events.

13. If the book was made into a movie, what changes or decisions
would you hope for? If it’s made into a movie they can fictionalization
it even more.

14. How did the book change you? Changed my opinion about the
author. I always knew the author put on heirs and was an “upperclass”
wannabe, who hasn’t had a job for at least 3 years, therefore not the
income to support being “upperclass”. I don’t respect the author any
longer. The reason is this book and another incident.

15. If the book is part of a series, how does it stand on its own?
I don’t think there will be a sequel.

Day 126, 127 of Sheltering In

Friday, Saturday. Friday was my birthday. We picked up Chinese food near my house to bring over and have lunch with my daughter at her group home. It was good to see maintenance guys there installing a new back porch. Boards were flipping up when stepped on end of last year, they just put a bunch of screws in. The porch got worse and Nutjob has been falling on the porch because of the dangerous condition it was in. I reported it to the Director Wednesday. She moved on it quickly and got their maintenance guys over on Friday. Usually it’s at least a week wait for any repair issues.

Later in the day I found out the day (Sunday) for my party at my father in law’s and that the younger sister in law is working and can’t go. Kind of assuming that’s a lie because she is always off on Sundays and spends the day gaming. Her fiancé, my ex friend who ruined my birthday 8 years ago did it again. She suggested a bonfire (fire pit) at my house and roast weinies and make s’mores. My wife was so excited, thought it was a great idea. Me? 👎 due 8 years ago. In fact, my wife just told me that my ex friend has been bugging my wife to have a bonfire at my house.

My wife couldn’t reach her Friday night or Saturday until after I went to the store and bought the food. She didn’t feel like it. My wife still wants to do it Sunday night, just the 3 of us. Whateves. We are both starved for adult conversation other than ours together. I had kept my expectations low so I wasn’t disappointed. My wife is making a big deal about the birthday party at her Dad’s house. She’s all excited, making pasta salad, cooking the brats to reheat at the party. Supposedly his wife is working, but I have a feeling she won’t be and it will be a big shirt show with her Dad and step monster fighting. This happened at a gathering last year. So again, keeping my expectations low.

Thursday water and food was delivered to the 2nd floor (because of my email to the Director). They got fresh AND frozen fruits and veggies. I’m bringing this up because my daughter was verbally assaulted by a house staff member Saturday morning about the food and water. Barbara (house staff) told my daughter “you better not pull another stunt like that with Amy again, telling her there is no bottled water and no food for the 2nd floor. You could have got stuff from the 1st floor.” Amy is a supervisor above the team lead, the team lead is above the house staff. Barbara was one of several house staff who refused to allow the 2nd floor clients to get bottled water and food from the first floor. There’s even more that was said by Barbara. I told my wife what happened and I quickly ran through in my head who I can go to for bail money. My wife wanted to go over and give Barbara a piece of her mind and tell her she better not hear about her threatening my daughter again. Barbara is off tonight, but works in the morning Sunday. Have I mentioned that the Pilot is running, gas in the tank, and my wife had the only key? She could leave early while I’m still sleeping. I am SO going to need bail money for her tomorrow.

I see another email being sent to the Director by Monday. I will not have my daughter threatened. I will not be quiet about it. She lives in a group home with city water that tastes and looks horrible. Bottled water is a necessity. While the 2nd floor wasn’t completely without food, they were out of staples and fruit and veggies.

Happy Birthday to me.

Day 124, 125 of Sheltering In

Wednesday, Thursday. Wednesday I crafted 2 emails to the director of the group home. The first was to get a letter my daughter needs to do another extension to her leave of absence from work. The group homes are still in lockdown, however we can visit if we wear face masks and socially distance outside. The 2nd letter was a list of things that have started to pile up with the team lead doing nothing about them. I am not afraid to go straight to the top. They hadn’t had bottled water on the 2nd floor for over a week and the 1st floor refused to share. The last time groceries were purchased the 2nd floor got none. So apparently we are back to playing games with the client’s food stamps. The 2nd letter was about maintenance/safety issues. The Director moved on them quickly, getting the letter to me and sending maintenance over to but some bandaids on the dilapidated porch.

PT was brutal again. Thursday we saw our older couple friends and got a tour of their new home. They moved from a house to a condo. We sat outside, baking in the sun catching up. We hadn’t seen them since early March.

My daughter called me 10X more than usual because of the top secret plans for my birthday Friday. One of the calls she let me know they got 2 cases of water for the exclusive use of 2nd floor housemates. The 2nd floor also got groceries! The team lead has been transferred, or... Thursday night there was a team lead in training working at the group home.

Day 123 of Sheltering In

Tuesday. I did not get a dang thing done that I planned to do on my day of quiet, peaceful, aloneness. I got up way too early considering when I fell asleep. I went through the McDonald’s drive thru and got the small big breakfast. That just means it’s minus hot cakes. I don’t know why, but I’ve been wanting that for the longest time. I think it’s the biscuit and the completely cooked scrambled eggs. I have a thing about scrambled eggs or omelettes. They must no longer be wet and they must not be brown and dry. Anyway, I have to say I was impressed by the PPE at my local McDonald’s. Masks and gloves at the money window AND the pickup window. BK and TB are not that consistent. I took my food home and ate it. Then I went to Ross. I’d never been there before, but my brother in law has been getting crazy good deals at the one near him. I wouldn’t say the deals I got were crazy good, they were good. I got 2 Adidas backpacks. (My daughter used backpacks a lot before the pandemic.) $14.99 for a $36 Adidas backpack is a good deal. $9.99 for an Adidas tshirt, $9.99 for Under Armor basketball shorts. After that I picked up last year’s free birthday sub. I ate 1/2 and have the other 1/2 for Wednesday when I will be home alone again. 😱

I was glad I got the T-shirt cuz I got my Kohl’s order today (only 1 trip to Indianapolis!). The Adidas track jacket that matched the pants I bought awhile back was like it was shrunk in the dryer twice. So looks like my wife and son will be getting the track suits cuz if the jacket doesn’t fit, why keep the pants? I’ll just give em to them for MY birthday. ☹️ I’m still debating the AirPods. I keep going back and forth. I should think of something else. I have 2 excellent sets of headphones but they are a PITA to plug into my iPhone 7. Whoever did away with the headphone jack and invented the dongle should be shot. I’ve never even used it because I know if I take it out from where it’s stored I will lose it, and I don’t lose things, but I would lose that because it’s hard to find an Apple certified dongle, and I’m sure they are stupid expensive. When I want to listen to my music I plug my Sony headphones into my iPad mini.

What do I want for my birthday? I have no idea. Any ideas?

Wow do I still hurt from yesterday’s PT. Melanie better not be my therapist on Wednesday. I’ll be wrecked until my appointment next week. Not only did she deep tissue massage, digging her thumbs into every sore spot I never knew I had, she made me do 2 exercises with the rubber bands that set off sciatica on my right side. If I get it, it’s usually on the left side.

I watched more of Dirty John-The Betty Broderick Story. Dang! Amanda Peet is really killin’ this role. She definitely knows how to play a whack-a-doodle-nutjob. I think I have 2 episodes left. Did you hear Netflix canceled “Ozarks”? Jason Bateman said there would be 1 more season and they would wrap up the story. So now we’ll never know if Wendy had her bipolar brother Ben killed. Why couldn’t Netflix let Jason Bateman do another season? He acted and directed the series.

I need to find something else that’s binge-worthy.

Day 122 of Sheltering In

Monday. Monday had PT at 5pm. It was brutal. I had Melanie instead of the usual John or Nate. She’s very nice, chatty. Always remembers my kids and asks about them. But she is brutal! So we’re having a conversation about my kids and she’s giving me deep tissue massage on both shoulders. She hit every single spot that hurt and that I didn’t know hurt and was just digging and hitting them. I came home and iced before and after dinner.

Started watching da Cubs. Gave up after the Sox got 5 runs in one inning. Technically this is pre-season, so maybe when da Cubs start the actual season they will show up to play. I went back to watching the Dear John Betty Broderick series after my son went to bed.

Tuesday my wife is babysitting her friend’s son. My son is going with. It’s going to be a video game fest and overdosing on WWE trash talking. This kid is in 4th grade? He still knows about the wrestlers from back in the day. I will be home ALONE with just the cats! Woo hoo! I can’t remember when the last time I had the house to myself. What am I going to do? Whatever I want! I had my son bring my sewing machine downstairs. Hopefully I will get started on one of my projects. I’m not setting my sights too high, but it would be nice to make some progress. There will be a lot of breaks due to my back.
