Ok, so Thursday I had to call AT&T to find out when they were turning my DirecTv back on. First I go to the AT&T website and log in. It took about 20 minutes to drill down to get to a phone number. Then I was on hold for another 10 minutes. Then I played the "let's see if the automated phone system can understand English". I HATE that game.
Automated idiot: "Are you calling about 773..."
Me: No.
Automated idiot: "I didn't get that, could you repeat that?"
Me: No.
Automated idiot: "Please say the phone number you are calling about."
Me: 815...
Automated idiot: Proceeds to get 2 of the 10 numbers wrong and says "I didn't get that, could you repeat that?"
Me: 815...
Automated idiot: Proceeds to get 1 of the 10 numbers wrong and says "I didn't get that, could you repeat that?"
Me: I'm speaking as distinctly as I can and repeat it again. 815...
Automated idiot: Finally gets it right and tells me that all representatives are busy...blah blah blah.
I wait another 15 minutes.
Representative Abu answers.
I explain that I think I said I was going to pay on the 2nd, but when I got home from work to pay, Directv was off, but I got online and paid it.
Representative Abu: Is your internet working?
Me: Duh! I said I got online and paid it.
Representative Abu: I see here your payment posted.
Me: Duh! Yeah...I went online and paid it.
I explain to Abu that I want to make sure my DirecTv service has been restored because last night when I tried to call DirecTv they told me they couldn't help me, that I had to call AT&T, but they were closed. AT&T will be closed when I get home tonight again.
Abu tells me that he will connect me with a DirecTv hocus pocus special imperial DirecTv wizard who can most definitely help me.
So he tells me it's definitely on. About 5 TIMES! I keep telling him I want to be sure, what if it's not, I can't call AT&T when I get home because they will be closed, can I get a number to call if there is a problem? So he gives me a magic number.
I get home and DirecTv is on. Woo hoo!
And yes, I have DirecTv from AT&T because U-Verse is not available in my area. I'm beginning to think it's more trouble than it's worth to have it billed through AT&T. Arghhhh!

Don't you love trying to find a phone number on ATT site???! It's crazy! And they are a PHONE COMPANY!
I'm this close to ditching ATT forever, except the alternative isn't much better. UGH!
Actually if you're talking about AT&T Wireless, all you need to do is dial 611 on your cell. But to have to spend so long to find the customer service number for land line, internet and U-Verse or DirecTv, it's absurd. And, remember when customer service meant SERVICE? And you could call them whenever? Now they are closed on the weekends and only open til 5pm.
