Sunday Stealing-Questions for readers

Hi! Your host is Bev Sykes of the blog Funny the World Welcome to Sunday
Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here
we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere.
Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting
and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves.

Pick a book you have read and answer the following questions:

1.  Why did you pick the book? I didn’t pick the book. An in-law
wrote a memoir and wanted me to read and review the book. I
like reading memoirs, but I would never have picked this one.

3.  What do you know about the author? What did you want to
know? The author is Christian, but their God is a different God.
?Yeah?? I think I will leave it at that. Suffice to say, I can point
out discrepancies that make the memoir not a memoir...That
make the book a work of fiction.

4.  What’s the most memorable scene? I don’t have one.

5.  How did the book make you feel? Angry! Frustrated!

6.  How do you feel about the way the story was told? Story is an
appropriate choice of word. It’s basically a work of fiction with some
truth. I feel that excluding all step siblings and step father from the
book is wrong. Don’t even give me any nonsense about having to
exclude them to keep the book a certain length. Mischaracterizing
events by not accurately depicting them. I feel that it was very
disrespectful to exclude the family one grows up with.

7.  Which parts of the book stood out to you? The parts that did
not accurately depict events. I was shocked.

8.  Which specific parts of the protagonist can you relate to? I read
a memoir, so no protagonist.

9.  Which character did you relate to the most? Memoir...no
characters.

10. Share a line or passage from the book. Pass.

11. What did you think about the ending? Having read it from
the beginning, and knowing the author personally, I fully expected
the ending.

12. Is the story plot driven or character driven? I read a memoir. It’s
more plot driven. A series of events.

13. If the book was made into a movie, what changes or decisions
would you hope for? If it’s made into a movie they can fictionalization
it even more.

14. How did the book change you? Changed my opinion about the
author. I always knew the author put on heirs and was an “upperclass”
wannabe, who hasn’t had a job for at least 3 years, therefore not the
income to support being “upperclass”. I don’t respect the author any
longer. The reason is this book and another incident.

15. If the book is part of a series, how does it stand on its own?
I don’t think there will be a sequel.

I read a GREAT memoir this summer called Educated. It was fantastic. I mean, what do you do when a family member brings you a book they wrote? Yikes. My son likes to write, but I enjoy his writing and it is fiction. Loved your answers! Have a nice Sunday!

I was asked to review a book by a friend several years ago. I was eager to do so because she's an interesting person and I felt the book would be great. It was terrible. Desperately needed an editor. Instead of reviewing the book, I did a feature article on the author and in it mentioned the book. I understand your problems with this memoir!

Wow. I try not to review books by people I know for this reason. Sometimes they are pretty awful.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, but good for you for finishing the book! It's tough to keep on when you know things you're reading do not correspond with your reality. It took me several years to get through Sarah Palin's first memoir. I could only read a few pages at a time because I got so angry and disgusted.

I felt the need to finish it because my wife had a copy and she would have been so hurt reading it. I summarized the book for her. She started reading it and stopped after she asked me about it. I don’t think she has gone back to reading it. I haven’t spoken to this in-law since. I hesitated to write this because I had given this in-law a link to my blog. That was almost 6 months ago and never a comment on my blog, so I feel ok with posting this. Also, I did not include the title and author so were this in-law to read this there is no valid reason for complaining.

I flew through this book because my anger fueled me to continue on.
Wow. I don’t think I could have gotten through Sarah Palio’s book.
I’m currently reading Billy Idol’s book. I’ve been reading it for over a year because I haven’t had the time. It’s a fascinating read, but I couldn’t review it having not finished the book. Once I do finish it I will do a review.
