Day 411-416 of Sheltering In-No more waiting

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. I picked my daughter up for a home visit on Friday. Saturday was laundry day at my father-in-law’s, but I stayed home. I had my daughter stay home with me. It just would not have been a good thing if my daughter went with. Let’s just leave it at that.

Sunday, Mother’s Day started out sooo not good. Let’s also just leave it at that. It did improve. I took my daughter back Monday before my orthopedic doctor appointment. Talk about a shirt show! There is the game since March of them not calling to confirm my appointment, then canceling it because I didn’t confirm. I didn’t get a call for Monday’s appointment, but I recalled that they had a patient portal, searched my emails, found a link, logged in and confirmed my appointment. I left early as I usually do, got to their office and the parking lot is empty. I call to check in, they moved and didn’t tell me, nor did their portal mention that fact. Drove to the new location, not that far, but that’s not the point. As I waiting over an hour past my appointment to get called into an exam room, I hear every receptionist saying the same thing. ‘Are you at blah blah? Oh we moved, you need to go to…’ What a professional way of running an office! Then the PA tells me I should stop using the knee brace. Umm no! My primary care doctor told me to keep using the brace AND the walker because I lose my balance a lot. I don’t need to damage my knee any more than it is. So basically a wasted appointment.

Tuesday I had a 2 hour and 45 minute physical therapy appointment because I’m going to continue working on my knee, but also return to the work I stopped on my shoulders and back when I got my knee injury. The 45 minute was for an evaluation. My appointments going forward should be around 2 hours.

Wednesday I had to take my son for his bi-annual primary care doctor appointment. My daughter had an appointment this morning and because she coughed, a new overzealous receptionist refused to allow her to see the doctor. We all have the same doctor, so when I went in with my son he asked why my daughter didn’t keep her appointment. I told him what happened and he shot off 2 emails, staff and his office manager. I’ve never seen him angry before. She has severe asthma and a sinus infection and possibly bronchitis or upper respiratory infection, so he really wanted to see her today. Now she can’t get in to see him until next week. I just hope she doesn’t have another emergency room visit before then.

Anastasia thinks she’s losing her job on Friday. My son was supposed to hang with her Friday. I have to break it to him that she can’t keep their plans. I’ll do something with him to make up for it. She also wanted agencies to contact and an attorney’s info, which I gave her. I have a plethora of that kind of information, so it was no big deal to send links and share contacts. Yes, she treats me disrespectfully by avoiding me and contacting my wife when planning hangouts with my son, but, if nothing else, I’m being the better person…as I always am. My life has been a shirt show since the car accident, so any good karma points I can get I will take.

Sunday I was emptying gift bags to reuse and found an Amazon gift card in a bag that had my birthday gift in it. Today I scanned it and found out it was a $50 gift card. Woo hoo! Made my day!

Hi! Your host is Bev Sykes of the blog "Funny the World". . Welcome to Sunday Stealing. This feature originated and published on WTIT: The Blog. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves!

1. Five problems with social media
     1.  Too political.
     2.  Too many trolls. People hiding behind false profiles just ‘stirring the pot’.
     3.  Little to no concern about others/too much attacking. And for what? What purpose do the attacks serve?
     4.  A lot of scam ads.
     5.  Seems just as much, or more cliquish than high school.
2. A place you would like to live, but have never visited
Europe. I’ve never left the United States. It would be nice to tour Europe.
3. Someone who fascinates you and why
Pass. I may come back to this if I think of someone.
4. Do you have tattoos?  What are they and why?
No. At times I’ve thought I wanted one, but I can’t think of what to get. I’ve seen a lot of bad ideas for tattoos, the art work isn’t necessarily bad, but the subject matter is. Until I can think of a tattoo I must have…I will pass. If I do decide on one, it will be artistic and I know just the place to go.
5. A book you love, and one you didn’t.
I’ve been reading a lot lately. Trying to get my streaming services to get full of stuff I haven’t seen, that I would like to see.  I really enjoyed “11-22-63”, by Stephen King. Kind of a time travel story, which I tend to love. I recently signed up for Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited because I spent an obscene amount on e-books in February. Ive been reading a lot of romance books. Last night I hit 3 that I just could not get through the first chapter. Some of them are real clunkers.
6. A fruit you dislike, and why
I don’t know that there has been one I dislike. A tomato is a fruit. Lately I’ve been avoiding them in salads because of the drippy mess of seeds. Never an issue before, and I have no problem with them in a sandwich.
7. Two words/phrases that make you laugh
No one here will find this funny, but when I was in high school, I friend of mine could get me to laugh with just one word…”shoehorn”. It wasn’t that shoehorn is so hilarious, it’s the look my friend gave me when she said it. Even if she was behind me and said it, I could picture in my head her usual look when she said it.
8. A quote you try to live by
Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." (Dr. Seuss)
9. Something you miss
My parents.
10. Three weird traits you have
I have a weird sense of humor. Sometimes it gets me into a bit of trouble.
11. What you wore today
A t-shirt that reads, “If you can read this you’re standing too close, and cargo shorts (or as we lesbians call them, “purse pants”. Plenty of pockets, no need for a purse.)
12. Word/phrase you use constantly
“Really?” Usually as in ‘really? Is that absolutely necessary?’ In reply to some argument my kids get into.
13. One thing you’re excited for
Nothing really.
14. Your feelings on ageism
I don’t really run into it myself, because usually people think I’m much younger than 60 years old that I turn in July. When I was job hunting 10 years ago I did feel it. Even when you try to leave out the year you got your degree, they do ask and then things seem to come to a close.
15. Three interesting facts about yourself
     1.  I live in Illinois, but was born and raised in Wisconsin. I moved to Illinois, really just to get the heck out of there. I didn’t know anyone in Illinois.
     2.  My parents were much older than my contemporaries parents. My parents had strong work ethic and solid values.
     3.  Oddly enough, I didn’t have children until the same age my Mom did, so my kids went through the same thing. They also had my parents strong work ethic and solid values passed on to them, even though they never met.

Day 409, 410 of Sheltering In-Waiting

Wednesday, Thursday. Wednesday’s PT was again brutal. But if I don’t put in the effort it’s not going to resolve my injury. No pain, no gain. Who said that?

Primary care doctor visit Thursday. Surprisingly good visit, except for the weight gain. To much stress, stress eating. Pandemic pounds. Whatever. I don’t know how it’s possible, but my a1c was 5.6. That’s the lowest it’s been since I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. (I looked through MyChart at my levels since 2018. I can see how he was so excited.) My doctor took me off another one of my diabetes meds. Now I’m on just one pill, and one shot of insulin once at night. I got a script for PT for my shoulders and back. Wondering how I’m going to be working on my knee with those too. I’m not cutting back on my knee work. I don’t want surgery. I also don’t want shoulder surgery. I guess I’ll be living at PT-???

I have to get up early to pick up my daughter from her group home. I’m hoping everyone will get along better. Mother’s Day will be a shit show. No tea party as I mentioned in my last post, yet absolutely nothing said about what the plan is. I think the plan is that there is no plan, just another stressful, crappy Sunday. That’s nothing to look forward to. I know my wife shopped solo Thursday and was very secretive about the bag in the way back of the Buick.

My sister is having surgery on the 15th to remove a polyp in her lady parts. She really didn’t mention where it was. I think she’s having it done at the same hospital my Dad was treated for his pancreatic cancer. It’s all the way on the East side of Milwaukee. I don’t understand why it’s so far from where she lives. It’s a day surgery. I asked what the rules were at hospitals there, like can family be in the waiting area, but I never got an answer. It’s not like I want to be stuck in a waiting room with her creepy husband. Besides, I’ve had 4 surgeries and 2 babies and she only came to see my firstborn, hold her for 5 minutes and then left. No doubt she didn’t tell her husband where she was going. Whatever.

Day 408 of Sheltering In-Waiting

My wife and son got their 2nd doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, so May 11th will be the last day of this stupid countdown.

Tuesday. Before PT I spent nearly 2 hours on the phone with my insurance company, or their claims handler. What fun! The woman from the insurance company seemed like she was going to rip my PT provider’s billing department a new one because they continue to bill me the amount in excess of the contract rate after my combo insurance pays. I told her I’ve been calling every month since last June. That is not an exaggeration. After I got off the last call it was time to leave for PT. M was my physical therapist today. Thank goodness, I am so tired of the new guy shorting me on my time. M and N always let me go 90 minutes, sometimes a bit more so I can get in lots of exercises. Today was brutal because my LCL was really tight, and bonus…I had sciatica on that side. After deep tissue massage she used this extra long rolling pin type thing to press and roll on my left side, butt, hip, thigh, knee, calf, down to my ankle. She added ankle weights to the side steps and kick outs, and balance on a sheet of foam, left foot in front of right, then vice versa. The last one was to work on my balance and that was oddly the most painful because it pulled on my lower back. I could only hold onto the bar with 1 or 2 fingers of each hand to keep my balance, so I was really feeling a pull in my lower back. Fun times! I have M tomorrow also. At least I know I’m working it when she is my physical therapist. And bonus…she’s very chatty, so it’s like my social time.

My daughter got approval from the Director to have a 3 day home visit for this weekend. My daughter says it’s because she likes us. I don’t have the heart to tell her it’s because we are both PITAS, and we don’t let up. Lol!

My wife doesn’t want to do the tea party for Mother’s Day because it’s too much work. She has never been involved with preparation, so I don’t get it.

Day 405-407 of Sheltering In-Waiting

My wife and son got their 2nd doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, so May 11th will be the last day of this stupid countdown.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Nothing much going on. The trip to the dealership Monday for a multipoint inspection was a waste of time. The service person was a jerk. When he asked why I wanted the multipoint inspection, I told him because the certified pre-owned (CPO) warranty was ending Saturday, and I wanted the multipoint inspection and to have them to see what a noise was in the front of the car. He told me all they would be doing was checking tire pressure and fluid levels. That does not seem like it would add up to the multipoint inspections I had previously. I read somewhere, probably on the Buick site where I got the idea to schedule it in the first place, that multipoint was definitely many more “points” than that. He also told me it would be about $171 to diagnose the noise. Really? I had a brake pedal issue about a month after I got the Buick. I wasn’t charged to diagnose that noise, in fact the service manager knew what it was before driving it. Does it really cost $171 to listen to a noise? It most certainly does not. When I bring it to my mechanic, he won’t charge me to listen to a noise. I’m hoping I get sent a survey about my experience, but I bet he just canceled my appointment. My wife and I talked as we drove away. We had been thinking we’d shop there for our next vehicle. We still need to replace the Pilot because I can’t stand having to coordinate my medical appointments and shopping trips with her need to go take her friend’s dog out for a walk, or trips to see her dad, or take him to medical appointments. If we want a 2nd Buick it will be from a different Buick dealership. We may go back to the Honda dealership across the street, because this time we know not to buy “as is” and we know to buy a CPO vehicle with an extended warranty. I don’t know…but I do know that I’m tired of being treated like a stupid woman who knows nothing about cars.

My daughter is still in moving limbo. She did find out she CAN take her bedroom set to the apartment because the Assistant Director told her she could, because the money for it came from my daughter’s account, just as I thought. We still don’t know anything other than there will be a stove and refrigerator. We also don’t know if there are restrictions for kitchen items. Like…can she have a toaster oven, can she have a set of knives, can she have an electric can opener, are there overhead lights in the living room and bedroom, can she hang stuff on the walls like art or photos? We know none of that and all my wife’s friends are asking when the move is because they have stuff for her, or they want to buy her stuff.

My daughter got weird news about home visits. She was told they have to be 30 days apart. That forks up Sunday. Happy Mother’s Day to me. If she found out she wasn’t moving this weekend I wanted her to spend Friday to Monday here and help with the Mother’s Day Tea Party tradition we had before the pandemic. So those plans are out. Now there is no plan. Nothing. I’m not pleased. When you can’t work and all you have are medical appointments and physical therapy it’s nice to have fun things to look forward to. Nope. Sunday will be just another day.

Sunday Stealing-Navy Wife

Navy Wife

1. What was your proudest moment?
Coming out.
2. What is your favorite childhood memory?
I would say anything I did with my Mom. I watched her cook, do laundry, iron. She taught me how to embroider.
3. Describe your dream vacation.
I would leave my house, get in my car, drive to somewhere that is not my house, and stay somewhere that is not my house. There would be a swimming pool, game room, fitness room, and I would eat food that is not fast food, and not made by myself or a member of my family. I’m not picky. ANYWHERE that is not my house! Even before the pandemic, vacation was never something I did much because I never had the money. My vacations as an adult have consisted of 1 trip to Disney World and Epcot with my sister, going to WI State Fair (which was an annual thing for us, then stopped for about 10 years, then went in 2019, then stopped because of the pandemic), also camping, mostly staycations. That’s it. I’m tired of seeing several Facebook friends show off their 6 times a year vacations. That’s 6 vacations per year, per person. They must all have a huge bank of vacation days and definitely more money than I have.
4. Do you see yourself as an optimist, pessimist, or realist?  Why?
Mostly pessimist. Things just don’t seem to go my way, so I tend to be pessimistic and don’t expect much.
5. What is something you wanted to do as a child, but never got to do?
Family vacations. We once took a day trip to Chicago to visit a relative of my Dad’s. Then there was the trip with my Grandma, Aunt, cousin, and my sister to Disney World/Busch Gardens/Key West. That’s it. Never went on a family vacation as a child.
6. What board game do you hate the most?
Clue. I just thought it was boring.
7. Describe the worst haircut you ever got.
How much time do we have? I went with my kids and my now ex husband to a haircut chain in Chicago. The woman who cut my hair did not speak/understand much English and it seemed like she had no training to cut hair. I asked for a cut, collar length in the back and feathered on the sides. Basically just shorten the cut I had. Next thing I know she goes at my hair with an electric clipper, lopping off chunks of hair, here and there. The cut I wanted did not involve electric clippers until the very end to clean up the back of my neck. I told her to stop, she didn’t understand, so I got off the chair and stood. She got flustered, speaking whatever language she spoke, grabbed scissors and a comb and started hacking off hair in sections with no regard to cutting evenly. I couldn’t say anything because 1. She couldn’t understand English, and 2. I was so upset my brain would not allow words to come out of my mouth. When she removed the cape, signaling that she was done, I paid, went to the car, and started to cry when I saw my hair the rear view mirror. My sent my now ex husband back in to find out who was the owner or manager. If it was her, we were going home, end of story. It wasn’t her. I went back in and I showed the manager the hack job on my hair. She “fixed” it, but it was still off because you can’t fix the too short sections. Ever since I have to psych myself up for weeks to get a haircut. Then I would be incredibly nervous when a stylist started cutting. No joke. It’s not so bad now because I’ve been getting my hair cut very short. Really short on the sides and back. I’ve taught myself to cut my own hair and my daughter’s hair with my Flowbee during the pandemic. I’ve cut my son’s hair since he was a toddler. Started with the mushroom cut, then buzz cut, then fade, and now layered and longer and using clippers only to clean up his neck. I have my own scissors, 2 sets of electric clippers, and a Flowbee. If I were to get a bad cut I could fix it myself. I got my haircut this week. I went to Great Clips (my go to where I’m comfortable) because my hair was much too long for me to try to cut it with the Flowbee. (I had a 4 inch ponytail!)

8. What’s the worst job you ever had?
There were so many. All of them were in Illinois after I moved here. First the beauty school whose owner told me, on my first day, that I needed to be more friendly to other employees because they complained that I didn’t talk. So, the very next day I started chatting up everyone. Not long chats, short, just to show I was being friendly. At the end of the day the owner called me into his office and YELLED at me telling me I was spending too much time talking. At first I apologized, then excused myself, went to my desk, got my offices keys out, went back to his office, handed him the keys and quit. At the time I was still driving back to WI, staying at my Dad’s, and worked all weekend at my former employer. When I quit I worked 4 day weekends so I could job hunt the rest of the week. I had money coming in and I refused to work for a nutjob. Next job the receptionist screamed at me on a daily basis because she thought I was stealing parts of her job that were accounting related. I was doing what the president told me to do. When I complained to him I was told that was the way she was and I would have to get used to it. I couldn’t quit at the time because I was pregnant with my daughter. I was so stressed that I had to go on medical leave/short term disability in January, when my due date was April. I was on strict bed rest. I returned to work 6 weeks after my daughter was born. I was laid off about a month later because a new manager was making cuts in all departments. I couldn’t have been happier! Cut to my last job where I was told repeatedly in the interview that everyone there were like family. That should have been a warning, but I had no choice but to take the job. Turned out they just meant “straight” family. They were big haters and did all kinds of things to get me to quit. They accused me of doing bad work on a huge client. After I was confronted I went over my supposed errors and made copies and notes proving it was the client who sent bad information. They did not let up. The false accusations continued and then 2 employees who were pals with my supervisor began YELLING at me on a daily basis. One of them yelling at me, in my face, that I was DISGUSTING. When I reported it to my supervisor I was called into a conference room with the supervisor and the 2 employees where all 3 yelled at me, basically saying ‘too bad, we’re not going to change’. They yelled so loudly that my ally on the 2nd floor heard them, and the partners on the other side of the reception area. My ally told the partners either they transfer me to her department, or be prepared to be sued by me for a hostile work environment, discrimination, and on and on and that I definitely had a case and could also go to the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) and that agency would investigate and they would find many violations of federal employment law. Suddenly I was transferred. Then I had the car accident that necessitated back surgery. I went on short term disability, then long term disability due to chronic pain. Even while I was on leave they tried to mess with me, trying to get my benefits stopped. I ended up contacting the EEOC twice. It was 3 years before that employer stopped contacting me.
9. What is one thing you want to be remembered for?
How I took care of and advocated for my 2 children, now adults, who have the same mental illness.
10. On a scale of 1-10, what is the highest level of pain you’ve ever experienced?
12.
11. What fashion trend do you wish would go away?
Dresses and skirts that are super mini. I just find them gross.
12. What’s the weirdest dream you’ve ever had?
The weirdest was starring Tom Hanks as my sadistic gym teacher. We were in the gym and were supposed to climb one of 2 ropes attached to the ceiling. Tom Hanks wore a gray sweatshirt, sweatpants, a whistle hanging around his neck, holding a shotgun to his side. It was my turn. I was a fat kid through most of high school. No way could I climb a rope. I refused. He picked up the rifle, raised it and cocked it. He told me to start climbing or he’d shoot me. I tried, my hands and legs raw and bleeding from trying to climb, but never really going up. He kept yelling at me to climb and blowing his whistle. He took aim…then I woke up. From later analysis of that dream and what was going on in my life at the time I figured it meant “dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t.” I still think that was an accurate analysis.
13. What are 2 weaknesses you have?
I can’t tell you that. Then you would know my kryptonite!
14. How would you spend your 100th birthday?
Hopefully not 6 feet under.
15. What food/drinks would you pack in a picnic basket
Sandwiches, vegetables to snack on, fruit, bottled water, or sparkling water. I would bring wine, but I’m the only drinker at my house. Kind of a boring picnic, but I’d stick to foods that didn’t need to be kept ice cold. Who wants food poisoning from potato salad?

Day 404 of Sheltering In-Waiting

Friday. Had a date with my wife. Picked up take out lunch from a restaurant we’d never been to, sat in the car to eat, then went grocery shopping.

My daughter is still out of sorts from being in limbo after being told she wouldn’t be moving into the new apartment complex this weekend. She’s just about packed everything, except she has 2 hampers full of dirty laundry. Her housemates have been monopolizing the washing machines and dryers, so she hasn’t been able to do any laundry since she returned to the group home last Saturday. I would really hate to have her have to bring all that dirty laundry to her new digs. If she doesn’t get it done this weekend I’m going to have to check my calendar and see what day I can pick up the dirty laundry and go to the laundromat.

Sunday will be a repeat of last Sunday. Going to my father-in-law’s for laundry and lunch and having her youngest sister and her fiancée (my ex friend) also there so they can again ignore me and make fun of my wife for sitting in the kitchen with me because I can’t sit at a picnic table with my bad knee. I’m sure they also made fun of me too. They didn’t talk to me the entire afternoon anyway so 🖕They’ve always been like this, it’s nothing new. My wife says this sister has always been like this, so I shouldn’t take offense. No, I can, and I will, but I won’t escalate things by saying something. My father-in-law is the one who wanted to invite them.

On the stalker trail…crickets. If that particular ex friend doesn’t want to repair the friendship that’s fine. I’d rather have crickets than be screamed at and belittled for the incidents that transpired before the friendship ended. Back to square one. I should check with the library to see if/when they will resume senior coffee chat. If I just got to socialize…I’d consider that successful. I figure I qualify as a senior, since I have my AARP card, and I’m turning 60 in July.
