1. If You Could Use A Time Machine To Go Back In Time To Fix One Thing Or Go To The Future To See What It Is Like Which Would You Do?

I would go back and get divorced right after my son was born. 

2. If All Of A Sudden There Was A Depression Or There Were No Stores To Buy Food, Clothing, Etc. How Would You Manage?

I’d be a’right. I’d have to start my garden earlier in 2021 and water and feed to have a successful garden. 2020’s garden was terrible. I have about a dozen green tomatoes that will likely go bad and not ripen, leaving me with zero produce from my garden this year.

3. Are You Concerned With What Other People Think About You?

Not so much.

4. How Do You Handle People You Don’t Like? 

If I can’t avoid them, I’d KTWK. (Kill them with kindness.) 

5. What Do You Think Of Garden Gnomes? 

Love them! I have one that I take out at Christmas. He guards the tree and the nativity from our cats. All he really does is slow them down. Lol!

6. You’ve Been Given An Elephant. You Can’t Give It Away Or Sell It. What Would You Do With The Elephant?

I would create a business, obtain liability insurance, buy land and create an appropriate area for the elephant to live and give rides. I would sell elephant rides and use the money to pay for people to take care of the elephant and it’s habitat. Yes, liability insurance. It would absolutely be needed in case anyone was injured riding the elephant.

7. How Would You Design A Spice Rack For The Blind? 

Hire a designer.

8. How Lucky Are You And Why?

I’m one dollah lucky. I play the lottery and win $1. 

9. What’s your biggest kitchen fail? 

Not getting rid of the parquet floors and replacing with something else when I could have diy’d it before my car accident. I really don’t like parquet floors. Mine are also too dark and don’t go well with my light oak cabinets.

10. What’s the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in school?

The face plant I did the first day (and last day) I wore clogs to school. (It was the 70’s. Clogs were the new “in” thing after platform shoes went “out”.)

11. If you could kill off any character from a current television show, who would it be?

I can’t think of any “current” television shows. 

12 . If you could make a rule for a day and everyone had to follow it, what would it be?  

Be kind. For realz! Everyone’s life is affected by the coronavirus. We’re all on edge (even if we would never admit it). Some of us have lost loved ones and people dear to us. There may even be some of us who have not hugged or received a hug in many months. It wouldn’t kill you to smile and wave at the driver of the car that let you merge, or wave back to the driver that waves at you as you walk your dog or do your power walk. 

13. Would you rather be a hobbit or an elf for 24 hours? 

Really?

14. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Move to IL not knowing a single person. I didn’t move for my job at the time, I just wanted to move. I’ve been here 32 years. 

15. Would your rather shoot spaghetti out of your fingers or sneeze meatballs? 

I don’t know what purpose either would serve, but sneezing meatballs sounds painful.

Day 195, 196, 197 of Sheltering In

Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I missed 2 days of PT this week due to back pain. Friday my wife and I were running around doing errands for her Mom’s friend. I also did a short grocery shopping trip for us, and bought an anniversary gift for my wife. Our 5th wedding anniversary is October 3rd. I created my own card as I usually do. It’s pretty cheesy, but more economical since I already have the materials. Did a really quick run to drop off meds, treats, and a magazine to my daughter. It was raining so we couldn’t visit since visits are only allowed outside, socially distanced and masks worn.

Day 194 of Sheltering In

Wednesday. A friend of my wife’s that just bought a house came over because she was in the area. We gave her da Bears sign I had made for her by a guy in J town. She is a big Bears fan. I killed it! She LOVED the sign and couldn’t stop talking about how her boyfriend who is not a Bears fan will just have to chill cuz she’s putting it in a prominent spot in her new home. This is the sign:

Makes me want to get one for myself.

After she left it was time to leave for PT. Before I left, my wife asked if we were going to her dad’s on Saturday to do laundry. Ahh, Saturday is our wedding anniversary. My wife said ‘No it’s not, it’s the 5th. My son backed up and said ‘whoa, no it’s the 3rd’ and was laughing his butt off because she got it wrong. Funny, NOT funny. She kept insisting it was the 5th. On that note, I left for PT. I never answered her about laundry. It is our 5th wedding anniversary, but it’s October 3rd.

I went to PT. N asked me if I saw the debate. K was working on my R shoulder and heard him. She said she watched part. I watched about 10 minutes. Then N went on and on about it. Then a client who is usually there when I’m there chimed in. Fortunately we all had a peaceful conversation. Nuff said about that.

After PT we stopped at Target, then Speedway. I got home and found that my shed was broken into. It didn’t look like anything was stolen, but they did breach the hasp and damaged the cross members. They weren’t in great shape in the first place, but now it looks like I’m going to have to replace the doors. More things I don’t have money for. Not happy. My wife did whatever to reattach the hasp and secure it. I went upstairs with ice packs.

In other news the prescription strength NSAID that our dr prescribed for my daughter’s migraines is causing slurred speech and excessive drowsiness. She won’t be taking it anymore. Dr wants her to have her psychiatrist up her meds. One of the meds is supposed to prevent or lessen Tardive Dyskinesia. She was told the slurred speech was Tardive Dyskinesia. She took 1 pill Monday night and 1 Tuesday morning. Not good. My daughter has had Tardive Dyskinesia in other forms in the past from other medications. She’s had uncontrollable mouth and tongue movements, repetitive hand movements, and one other that I can’t think of. In the past the Tardive Dyskinesia stopped after the medication was stopped. Tardive Dyskinesia can be permanent, even when the medication has been stopped. I’m praying that this side effect stops very soon. 

Supposedly the main office will have a check for me to pick up by the end of the week. I got my daughter a duffle bag to replace the one that got eaten by mice. I saw a bunch at Ross and picked out a $220 large Columbia duffle bag. I didn’t pay that, I paid $24.99+ tax. If you’re looking for duffle bags, backpacks, or athletic/leisure wear, Ross is the place to go. Adidas, Nike, Under Armor, Puma, Columbia and they get new stock in daily.

Day 193 of Sheltering In

Tuesday. I won’t be getting that used washer and dryer because my brother in law who hasn’t been working is suddenly working every day including Sunday, while my father in law’s truck sits in his driveway. No, I can’t afford to rent a van or rental truck. It’s been a year. I am not a happy camper and I’m sick and tired of going to the laundromat or going to my father in law’s and spending a very long day there because their dryer is a much smaller capacity than the washer. The first couple Saturdays we came home with damp clothes because of this.

We went to Best Buy, they would only do 1 phone per appointment so we had to make an appointment for my son’s phone for Friday. Also, my wife’s hotspot did not  transfer to the new phone so we will have that to deal with on Friday too.

Day 187, 188, 189, 190, 191, 192 of Sheltering In

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Wednesday and Thursday were PT, Friday grocery shopping and Rx pickup. Saturday we had a visit with my daughter at the group home. She spoiled her ballot and asked me what to do. I read the instructions, explained where she needed to Mark it spoiled and sign it. On the way home we stopped at the county clerk’s office and I put it in the election ballot drop box. They will process it as a spoiled ballot and send her a new ballot. We can even check the status by scanning the code on the instructions. 

Sunday. Da Bears game. What a frustrating game, but they pulled off a win even though they had 2 touchdowns reversed. Did so much better with the new quarterback. We had the same snacks as last week, minus the pinwheels. We made homemade French bread pizza for dinner. Next game, maybe homemade sushi rolls or bowls. (California Maki, Smoked Salmon, Smoked Whitefish, or asparagus rolls.) I have cauliflower rice in the freezer, so we can do low carb.

In keeping with changing up our dinner menu with foods we usually get from a restaurant, but now cook at home, Tuesday night is Chicken Vindaloo and Saag Paneer. The Saag Paneer is from a pouch, only because I haven’t had time to go to Sam’s Club to buy Paneer. I have made Saag Paneer from scratch and it turned out delicious. I have recipes for Paneer, but it’s very time consuming and requires an entire gallon of milk. I may make Carrot Halwa if I have time before or after our appointment at Best Buy to activate and data transfer my wife’s new iPhone 7. I haven’t had Carrot Halwa since the last time we went to Downers Grove and they had it. I have all the ingredients.

I had my wife call Best Buy to confirm they do not charge for data transfers and setup. They don’t. Apple or AT&T must have a special arrangement with them. Very happy about that because I looked into how to diy it, it’s doable, just very time consuming, especially if you’ve never done it. Yes, it would be me that would have to do it if it wasn’t free. My wife is not very tech savvy.

I want to get another estimate on the Buick since the last one I got was so outrageous. Maybe we can do that after Best Buy, unless the used washer I am looking to buy can be picked up. It’s a small apartment size front loader, in working condition, and it’s under $100. My wife is concerned how small it is. I don’t care. Until we can afford full size new, it will keep us out of nasty laundromats. I may even get the electric dryer. I’d rather have gas because our electric bill is outrageous, but if I have to do it temporarily, then I’ll do it. 🤞I hear back about a pickup time. I did get a reply that it was still available, just waiting to hear back and setup a pickup time.

Day 185, 186 of Sheltering In

Monday, Tuesday. Before PT Monday, we stopped at a local body shop to get another estimate for the keying, and a separate estimate for 2 scratches and the rear wheel opening where I sideswiped a post at the gas station when I got gas the first time.

1. Estimate by the shop my insurance recommended (also the shop that did an estimate on the Pilot for a new tailgate and bumper when they had already been replaced and I just wanted an estimate for the lock assembly.) Their estimate for ONLY the keying damage:  $130.00 Yes, one hundred thirty dollars.

2. Estimate from the shop recommended by our mechanic. Their estimate for ALL paint damage:  $1,074.35. (I need to go back and have them split it for the insurance company.)

3. Estimate from a shop recommended by our older couple friends. Their estimate for ONLY keying damage:  $2,587.47

Their estimate for the other damage:  $1,535.40

So total to repair costs from 3rd shop for all scratches, side swiping repair, including keying:  $4,122.87

I am completely gobsmacked. Estimate #1 is obviously a lowball estimate that would increase dramatically once work commenced. Estimate #3...are they gold plating part of my Buick? 

In other news, the AT&T corporate store I always go to sux donkey. I was there 3 times last week. I ordered an iPhone 7 for my wife, then my son will get her 6 and I can probably sell his 5 for $5. I talked to the guys at the store and told them I ordered it and they said bring it in when you get it and we’ll take care of transferring 6 to 7 and 5 to 6. We didn’t have a chance to go until Tuesday, today. Different guy told me the equipment that did the transfers was removed from the stores quite awhile ago and we need to go to an Apple store, or we could plug it in to our computer and download Google Photos and transfer everything ourselves. And where would I find detailed instructions for that? Who does that themselves? Seriously? I called the Apple store closest and got transferred to support. I was told that both Apple stores even remotely near us are so booked with appointments they aren’t taking any appointments now. I was told that Best Buy does what we need done and support booked an appointment at Best Buy a week from today. Why do I get the feeling that Best Buy doesn’t do this? Whatever happened to them sending a tech to your job or home and setting up your phone? I guess that only applies when you buy the most current, most expensive model. I think I will try calling that Best Buy location tomorrow.

Day 184 of Sheltering In

Sunday Bears Game! I got to watch part of my QVC show, then switched to the game which we record and play about 40 minutes late so we can zip through commercials and the half-time talking heads. I made a mostly no carb charcuterie board. Well sort of. I used a plastic cutting board, but that’s what I had. I have a wood charcuterie board, but it’s packed with the holiday stuff.

I did have carbs on it, because I can’t go totally without carbs, I get blood sugar crashes. We had Colby Jack cheese slices, Ham and Roast Beef with Colby Jack wrapped inside; Pepper Jack cheese slices, Genoa Salami and Roast Beef with Pepper Jack wrapped inside; Cream Cheese and Corned Beef, Ham, or Roast Beef Pinwheels; Cream Cheese and Chives Stuffed Baby Peppers.

Da Bears won! Woot! Woot!

Not sure how I should feel about it, but my sister suggested to my daughter that we do Christmas gift opening before my daughter has surgery. I think she just means the stuff from her, which I usually put the shipping box, still sealed, in the closet until Christmas Eve, or morning. I do it so the gifts look more plentiful. The days of lots of clothes and game systems and games ended the year I had back surgery. I digress. Why would my sister say that to my daughter? Regardless of her reasoning, my sister should have talked to me about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Don’t mind me, I’m just her Mom.

I’m feeling really overwhelmed. It’s my doing, my fault. I still haven’t done anything about the furnace or washer and dryer. Furnace is the priority, but I find myself stuck, as if in cement, I can’t/won’t contact a place for an estimate. I have several reasons why...I fear being ripped off because I no longer have a guy for this kind of job, I’m not comfortable having a stranger in my home due to the coronavirus, and I don’t want to know how much it’s going to cost. Truly, I just feel like EVERYTHING is on my shoulders...my 2 bad shoulders. 😕 I don’t see that changing, but if I ask for calls to be made for something in August, and it hasn’t been done yet, wtfork? It’s ONE thing! I’m going to stop there, cuz there’s no point.

I’m also feeling overwhelmed about my daughter’s surgery. She wants to recover at my house, which we would love! Seriously, we would prefer for her to recover at my house. My daughter is adamant about not recovering in a nursing home, which is where the organization sends clients for recovery from surgery. The other option, a rehab facility is just code for a nursing home that claims to do rehab, like PT, but really doesn’t do much. How do I know? My father in law spent time in one after his cancer surgery a couple years ago. I think it was liver cancer. He’s doing fine, but he’s 74ish so a rehab facility/nursing home for recovery isn’t as jarring as it is for a 27 year old.

So I extended an olive branch to my ex-friend who lost her younger brother to fentanyl overdose). I asked her about going to garage sales, probably Friday. (That’s her thing, garage sales.) I asked her to give me the details and I would let her know when I could meet her, village-wide garage sale where she lives. Even though I can’t walk much, I will follow through. I suspect I won’t hear from her at all. She works under the ‘got a better offer, or changed my mind, but I won’t bother to let you know’ rule. It doesn’t matter because I did make an effort. I stopped taking that personally years ago.

I read too much about current events. I think I read Dr Fauci said the coronavirus will still be around til the end of 2022. 🥺😷
